Just a serious Question. Will Danville ever be good again? I'm not use to seeing Danville not in the hunt for State Championships year in and year out. AND don't give me that crap about small school and every school goes through rough times.

-Boyle catapulted to state wide prominence, meaning a few county kids that used to go to school in town probably started staying home to play ball.

No they are down in enrollment.

Just conjecture but I believe the population may have decreased some in the city.

I think Danville will be fine this season. They weren't bad last year...not championship quality, but they were solid.

I can easily see Danville go 4-6

The talent isn't there like it used to be. They used to have pretty good sized linemen and above average skilled players. They also used to have a nice amount of kids playing football back when they were winning also. There are quite a few kids who could make a difference on the football field that choose not to play. Some play golf, some play soccer and some just don't play at all. If Danville had 45+ kids playing football they'd be competing for state titles. My numbers estimation could be off. I'm not sure they have had that many kids on the team for quite some time now. Their numbers always look lower than what they did when they were winning.

 

I do think they will be back but it will take time, patience and dedication on the part of the staff, kids, administration and most importantly the parents. The culture is changing into more positive direction and from all accounts Coach Clevenger has things going in the right direction.

Danville always has a decent squad year in and year out. They are in a pretty good tradition-based district with Middlesboro, LCA, and Somerset, although we know all those programs are "down" at the moment. Danville played a pretty strong schedule and lost on the road (I believe) to a good Prestonsburg. Maybe just one of those "luck" things.

I'll add to that....it's a IF, but since we are talking theories here, Danville has just missed going 1A in the new realignments since the six class world came about. As a matter of fact, their boys enrollment for the 13-14 school year was dead even with that of Mayfield.

 

Danville is 9-1 all time vs Mayfield. I have no idea if they had been 1A and in the west, that they beat Mayfield any in the semis. I have no idea if they had beaten Mayfield, if they win it all.

 

However, Danville's domination of Mayfield (which spans over 3 decades of the 80s, 90s and 2000's) & their 10-3 record in state championship games tells me that had they not just missed being 1A the last eight or so years, we probably aren't having this conversation.
