Got it!

In the tournament, Mercer beat Grant, Southwestern, Bryan Station, Lafayette and Henry Clay. Can't recall a time where this could be said in the past, but Mercer's athleticism matches that of any of those schools. And their size is superior to all of those.

Coach Cook does a masterful job of getting these kids to buy in and play unselfishly. Hard to do with a group of kids that talented. Kudos to him. Hard to believe how far Mercer has come in 12 months under his leadership.

Honestly I'm most impressed by the fact that Southwestern played Mercer to a 2 point game, without 2 of their 3 best players. Maybe I haven't given SW the proper credit? Maybe Mercer is getting too much? Regardless, it is June, just stunned me a little I guess.

I was told SW was on fire from deep. The three can be a great neutralizer. It also shows that SW may be just fine if the rumors come true and they lose Butt and Fitzgerald.

You better take the word "State" out of the title, a couple of people may go on yet another useless rant. ;)

Good point. I feel like the 12th will be a dogfight this year, and as crazy as it may sound, more competitive top to bottom than last. I legit think that there are 6 teams with as good a chance as the other to go to Rupp. Last year there were 3, IMO. (BC,LC,WC)

Why would they lose Butt and Fitzgerald? I'm close to going on an epic rant but I'm trying to refrain. It would rival Jerry McGuire's memo.

Oldest rumor going around the 12th is that they are headed to Louisville. First it was Ballard now it is Fern Creek. They have been playing summer ball with Southwestern and all signs point to them staying at Southwestern but the rumors of them leaving are loud and persistent.

I stand by my 'state'ment. :D

SW had 3 starters not playing against mercer. Danny and Steven was at TN elite camp and Hunter Cromer has been playing baseball. SW has some kids that can flat out play given the chance. Peyton Cundiff and Hunter Stevens can fill it up. They cant stand to loose Danny and Steven though and still be a contender.

You failed to mention the game they lost to an average LCA team?

Mercer played well Sunday but caught some good breaks. Nontheless, congrats to them. Nice team. See if they can do it when it matters in February and March.

If you had seen the game, you'd understand! A fellow from Burnside (Pulaski County) asked me yesterday if I had heard abut the brothers transferring. He then said that, the way those other boys shot the previous night, he's not sure it would've made a difference. Their 3 point percentage (and number attempted) was off the charts.

I always look forward to your input. Mercer wins a tournament that had all the 11th region powers, Southwestern and West Jess from the 12th, and a smattering of other regional contenders, and your comment is that maybe you've been giving Mercer too much credit. I'm trying to recall your pro-Mercer comments....

That's because I only referenced tournament play. I didn't mention any pool play games, good or bad. Mercer won their other pool play game but didn't look good in doing so. They did not play well Friday in either game.

So, using your logic as it relates to this event, they got it done "when it mattered" - in tournament play.
