Adam Jones says AJ McCarron has the "It" factor

Recommended Posts

“McCarron looks really good. The other guys have their spurts, but he’s got the ‘It,’ factor,” Jones said before practice one day this week. “The kid’s a winner. You can tell he’s been working on his ball strength from last year and this year. You can never underestimate the ‘It,’ factor regardless of what anybody says. It’s the difference between winning some games and being champion. That’s my opinion.”

I find Adam Jones comments really interesting. Especially since he really has never came out to be to supportive of Dalton, and even says here the other QB's on the team have their moments but AJ McCarron has the "It" factor. Then going on and saying that is the difference between winning some games and being a champion. Maybe it is just me, but seems to me that was a shot on Dalton and support of him wanting a change at QB too. Dalton has won a lot of games like he has said, but as we have seen he probably is not going to ever be a Champion at least not as a starter.

If McCarron hadn't missed all of last year, I could see him pressing harder to take Dalton's spot. His reps wouldn't have been much, but he would have been more in the swing of things. I do, however, look for the season after next to be McCarron's, unless the Bengals make the AFC Championship game at the least. This is the last year of guaranteed money, right?

That is correct

The one knock on McCarron this preseason is that he has happy feet, and there's no contact involved. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out when he's able to get hit.

Interested in where you have heard that? All I have heard as how good he has looked in the pocket and how he has a natural feel in the pocket. Knowing when to slide to the side in the pocket and when to get out of the pocket. Also have heard how he has looked great going through his progressions and getting off his first and second read and going to his third read when needed. Which is Daltons biggest problem of locking in on one guy and never going through progressions.

So I am not saying you are wrong, I'm just interested where you have heard that or read it. Because I would like to read that too, because that is a problem if true.

This sounds great, but Bengal fans should not get too excited. A lot of guys look good in mini camps. The guy hasn't even taken a snap in a Preseason game. I'd love competition for AD, but lets wait and see.

No doubt I completley agree with you. However as a bengal fan I am willing to take a chance with the unknown rather than the same ole result of Dalton sucking in big games.

Yes it could could completley back fire and we could be back to being horrible. Or it could be something to get them over the hump and as a fan I am willing to take that chance but I do know it could back fire.

Whoa. Are you actually giving up on Dalton?

Where have you been? Lol I have made it pretty clear all off season that I am in the ready to move on from Dalton. I said going into last year he needed to take the next step and he didn't. Now I know last year was not all on him because of injuries but his play looked the same as always and still staring down one guy. Even the pro bowl showed his lack of skill set. Every other qb looked great and he goes in and looks terrible and staring down one receiver and not going through progressions.

I am glad the Bengals have won with him. However I am more in the mindset that we would have won games with many qbs over the last few years because of people around him. I don't think we would lose much by moving on from him and could potentially be better.
