Let me begin by prefacing my comments.

 

When it comes to "Ranking Uniforms" it simply becomes a matter of taste. What some may like, others see differently. Whereas one person may prefer the chrome and neon of Oregon's uniforms, another may prefer the traditional steadfast Alabama jersey. I understand that.

 

As such, it is only fair that I share what MY criteria is:

- It begins with the Helmet. To me the helmet is the key. I look for a helmet that either is timeless and easily identifiable, or a helmet that is unique and stands out among it's peers.

- Speaking of "unique" it is all about the lack of imitation. The best uniforms and helmets stand on their own and identify just as easy as a name on the scoreboard. If a casual fan can walk into a stadium and know who is playing simply by their uniform, THAT is worth of mention.

- It is not a niche or a Flash in the Pan.I love seeing the Matte Helmets, the camouflage jerseys, and the alternate color schemes. When it is said and done though those will all fade away. This is about the "base" uniform and not a "one off"

 

 

With that said... let's begin the countdown!

 

#10 Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornado

 

Kentucky is a state full of "Blue and White". In the clutter of those the Tilghman jersey stands out for it's crisp look and stately helmet. You can almost see the team speed pouring out and the Royal Blue fits one of the State's "Blueblood" programs

 

 

#9 Beechwood Tigers

Beechwood is one of my personal favorites because as mentioned, anyone who knows Kentucky HS Football would instantly recognize the jersey. It is clean and stately and looks the same as it did in 1981. The only thing keeping the Tigers down the list that I ding them for is the helmet. The Clemson paw is one of the most common helmet designs you can find.

 

#8 Henry Clay Blue Devils

Henry Clay gets my vote for the most stately uniform in Kentucky. The Blue and Gold compliment each other well and the script "Devils" has withstood the test of time. A great uniform fits the style of the team wearing them and one look at the sleek HC jersey gives the impression of speed, athleticism, and a pedigree of good football.

#7 Harlan County Black Bears

 

On a list filled with long standing programs, Harlan County is the youngest by far. What allows them to hang with such prestigious company? The HC helmet is bar none one of the best in the state. The unique, yet bold logo brings in a perfectly themed mascot for the region it represents. Though Black, White, and Red is one of the most common color schemes.. the Black Mountain backdrop and the native Bears make it a perfect mix.

 

 

#6 St. Xavier Tigers

 

One look at the helmet and nearly any fan of Bluegrasspreps can identify who it is. The Tigers have a rich tradition of football and the stately green, yellow, and white jerseys make it unmistakable. Professionally executed and stately... one could mistake the field full of players as a small college. Given St. X's reign as traditionally one of the best in the Bluegrass, this assumption would not be too far off.

 

#5 Tates Creek Commodores

 

Though Tates Creek does not impose the gridiron like it once did, they continue to look good on Friday Nights regardless. The signature interlocked logo and classic maroon and white jerseys with bold stripes have been the staple of the program for decades.

#4 Corbin Redhounds

 

The winner for the cleanest jersey is Corbin. The mixture of crisp white, silver, and cardinal red makes the Corbin uniform the Red Corvette of the Commonwealth. The signature logo and "REDHOUNDS" across the back hit the unique points well.

 

#3 Belfry Pirates

 

No uniform fits a team better than Belfry's. Perhaps the most unique helmet logo in the State and the simple yet aggressively bold Red and White Color Scheme. If a person was asked to imagine Belfry you would see the signature white helmet scuffed and lined with helmet decals from hours of smashmouth football.

#2 Highlands Bluebirds

 

 

The royalty of the Kentucky Prep scene are the Highlands Bluebirds. The most unforgettable jersey in the state has been indoctrinated into our psyche from years of dominance. The signature H has served as a beacon of impending doom for decades, and the angry bird mascot on the sleeve is both ironic and at the same time perfectly apt. Though not proficiently crative, the Highlands uniform is the epitome of a Kentucky Classic.

#1 Danville Admirals

I have used adjectives such as "clean", "regal", "timeless", "creative", and "unmistakable", but no teams checks off all the boxes like the Danville Admirals. Though not quite the symbol of impending defeat as it once stood.. the Admiral jersey remains the perfect mix of old and new, bold and stylish. My favorite helmet in the state and when they wear the silver pants it still brings back childhood memories of seeing Danville warm-up and the "wow" it brought.

I definitely like Beechwood as a program...but I've never been fond of their helmets. The Clemson paw shows up on too many helmets out there...including the former Reidland helmet, Lynn Camp, and McLean County in Kentucky.

 

Personally, I think Belfry would be pretty near the top in the state as far as I'm concerned.

Trinity suffers from some medicre shirt and pant choices in recent years, but to my mind, the complete excellence of the helmet alone should have qualified them for this list.

...I like Walton-Verona's helmets a good deal.

That logo though....

 

I have to ding them for that Mellow Mushroom looking logo. It is unique..but it just does represent the force Trinity is

 

I always thought if Trinity simply put a single bold white shamrock on their green helmet it would look so much better.

Kinda of a homer for the Fayette County public and private schools, so I'm going to say LCA with an iconic " Cross " on the helmet decal. Lex Catholic with their blue, trimmed with black and going back to original helmet color/ blue. And how about Lafayette? With the all white pants, jersey, helmets with white face mask. it just looks clean and sharp.

I think the Ads are unique. I remember when they had just ADS on the helmet and just an anchor and just a D. But the current helmet is the best.

 

I feel like some of the choices are just ascetic on what you like. I don't care as much for HHS or Tates Creek styles but the program does set HHS off. No overly thrilled by PT either.

 

I concur with Henry Clay but I do remember when they wore the HC but the blue and gold have always been a good combo IMO.
