I will apologize up front because I don't mean to offend anyone, but I doubt any team in the bottom bracket can beat any team in the upper bracket.

The highest ranked team in the lower bracket is E Jessamine at 17. Then I believe it's 19, 22, & 24. The upper bracket has #'s 1,2,3,4,5,10, & 12. If Daviess County wins the 3rd region, they are ranked 14. If Apollo wins they at least received 41 votes in the last poll but were unranked.

 

I wish the best of luck to all teams, these young ladies play their hearts out and coaches coach their hearts out. My problem is with how the teams are paired by the KHSAA. This has been discussed in other threads, but jeez, this years pairing are worse than last years. Not sure it could be worse if they tried.

Agreed, the temp fencing at Jack Fisher is horrible. State should be seeded based on coaches poll. This would make the coaches poll more meaningful and maybe get rid of the good ole boy system of casting your weekly ballot. Or you could seed based on strength of schedule or strength of region.

I agree about E Jessamine. I think it will come down to E Jessamine and Warren East in the bottom bracket. Ashland has very good pitcher but the only ranked team they beat was #25 Boyd County 3 times. So I'm suspicious of their offense against tougher teams.

Ashland should have beat Scott County at Scott County a couple of weeks ago.

Totally agree on the fields - I've heard rumors on how they kept the tournament in Owensboro rather than move it to Bowling Green - but on the second point... ugh no way! The coach's poll is bad enough as it is. If you attached importance to it, I think you'd see the good ol' boy system get worse, not better.

 

The draw the last 2 years stinks, there's no doubt about it. I don't know how else you do it unless the KHSA/coaches were to agree on which regions are the top 8 regions and agree that no more than 5 can be seeded on one side of the bracket draw. And there's no way anyone would agree on the top 8 regions or to do something like that. The little guys have too much to lose because draws like this happen and benefit them.

 

It's like the Madison Central/Southern district, where Berea and Model refuse to allow the regular season to seed the district tournament. It's coin flip. The last two years, Central and Southern have drawn each other in the first round, ensuring that either Berea or Model make it to region. No one's going to agree to anything that is not in their best interests.

It was very early in the season, but East Jessamine beat Ashland this year, too.

 

I saw Jessamine several times this year, did not see Warren East, but judging on their schedules, I'd say Warren East should be the favorite out of the bottom bracket.

Guess it's safe to say that when those big dogs up in that upper bracket win the whole thing that they can truly say they are Best of the Best, right?? They survived the gauntlet of superior teams from game 1 to the end. That's how I would want to prove I was the best, but I'm pretty competitive.

 

As for those little pups or hopefully little paNDAs in the bottom bracket, I hope they remember that anything can happen at any given time. I personally remember a little ol' 7th grader in her first state tournament experience pitch her team to a W, in the losers bracket, over 3rd ranked OC & end their chances to repeat the previous years top dog award.
