Could be a candidate for a September call up. He's really turned it on this year after focusing solely on baseball and forgetting about the hardwood.
August 19, 201511 yr Author Taylor Sparks had a single, triple and HR in game 1 of a Double Header for Daytona. He's one of the Reds top hitting prospects for sure. Needs to work on his plate discipline but he has legit power, also an above average runner for a 3rd Baseman. He completely skipped Dayton after being drafted in the 2nd Round last season. At the beginning of the year it was obvious that he skipped a level but he's beginning to hold his own. He's hitting .257 on the year with 20 Doubles, 4 Triples, 12 HR's, 51 RBI's and 12 SB's.

I do not care how many good young arms you have, you have to be able to consistently put the ball in play, drive the ball to the opposite field, execute the little things. Power bats only give you so much. Look at KC. They are near the bottom of mlb in homers but they win because they have professional hitters that do their job. Until the Reds fix this not only on the big team but throughout their organization, they will not win

August 20, 201511 yr So you guys think that this organization doesn't have offensive problems and all these young arms are going to fix things. Come on. The Reds need to draft real professional hitters that are consistent and can hit in all counts to all fields. Their right fielder is way too inconsistent and their center fielder can't get on base. And all besides the left fielder are returning next year. the game has changed and teams that wait for the big 3 run home run do not win consistently anymore. Teams have loaded up on power pitchers that are tough to square up so you have to take what they give you, have a good approach etc. Who besides Winker do they have that is close to being ready to seriously contribute at the big league level? Heck their minor league player of the year Waltrup is on the interstate this year

The guys they have in their system are so much better offensively. They can lose Holiday and never skip a beat. Do you see a Grichek or a Piscotti in the Reds farm system waiting to come up?

Pitching is very important I get it but anyone that thinks the Reds organization is in good shape when it comes to good hitting prospects with high ceilings is delusional 2 of the 4 top prospects now in the organization just joined the organization 2 months ago. It should not be that way

The key is pitching. I'm not saying the Reds don't need to improve their offense, but pitching, pitching, pitching is the key.

Never once said that pitching was not important and I like some of the Reds young arms but unless Cincy can trade some of their surplus of arms for some good hitters and change their organizational philosophy by getting good pro hitters that can handle the bat, they will not sniff the playoffs jmo. Small example the two game series against KC. Had runners in scoring position multiple times with less than two outs and could not break through. I agree with you totally but I have major concerns with the players they run out there everyday. It may take more than 1 or 2 new players in the lineup to help this team. My biggest concern with the existing lineup is their inability to put the ball in play on a regular basis. As much as I like the way Suarez swings the bat he still falls right there with a lot of the others in striking out nearly once a game. Look at these numbers and compare them to KC's hitters who are thought to be one of the best hitting units in baseball. Even Votto who has good overall numbers strikes out at a high rate. Just putting the ball in play especially with runners in scoring position makes a huge difference in scoring runs.
