July 5, 201511 yr Author Reydel Medina seems like a prospect to keep an eye on. He played his first season last year in the states and struggled with plate discipline but showed huge raw power potential. He is 22 years old and could make a quick rise through the system if he keeps playing the way he has (3 Doubles, 1 Triple, 5 HR's and 13 RBI's so far in just 12 games). He also shows above average speed, he bats and throws left handed. Here's the scouting report on him from after the Reds signed him... Cuban outfielder with well above-average bat speed, Medina is ready to make his professional debut in 2014, and several sources think he could explode up prospect lists. The pitch recognition needs work, and it will be interesting to see how the bat plays against quality arms, as spin could give him fits. But the raw strength, bat speed, and power potential could make the 20-year-old a household name with a strong debut season. Medina was born February 14, 1993, is 6´2¨ and 198lb. There isn´t much physical projection in the 20 yr. old, he has a muscular toned well-proportioned mature body. He trained in Santiago at the Mikalo Bermudez Baseball Complex with Aldo Marrero who also signed catcher Onil Peña on July 2nd this year with the Seattle Mariners for $385,000. During Medina´s participation in the DPL he showed an advanced hit tool and plus raw power. He combines a solid tool set across the board. The left hand hitter has a good approach and strike zone judgment. He´s an above average runner in the 60 yard dash posting 6.6-6.7 times at frequent workouts, he possess average to plus arm strength and average defensive skills. The Cincinnati Reds and Medina agreed on a contract value of $400,000.00
July 6, 201511 yr Author Yorman has been called up. Smith optioned to AA. Hopefully Yorman is up to stay and they work out a trade with someone for Byrd maybe. Otherwise Yorman might be heading right back down when it's time for Iglesias to make his next start.
July 6, 201511 yr Author Raisel Iglesias (rehab) allowed 2 runs in 4.2 innings with 7 strikeouts last night. Kyle Waldrop went 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Yorman Rodriguez went 1-1. Sebastian Elizalde went 1-3 with a double, walk and an RBI. He has 51 RBI's on the year. Carlton Daal went 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI.
July 6, 201511 yr Author Baseball Prospectus released their Midseason Top 50 Prospects list this morning. Two Cincinnati Reds prospects made the list. Right handed pitcher Robert Stephenson cracked the list at #23 overall, which is actually a drop from his pre-season ranking of 16. Personally, I believe he’s improved his stock this season versus last season (which you can read about later today when I publish his scouting report from Friday night). Here is some of what Jeff Moore had to say about Stephenson in his write up: You can count the number of pitchers, both on this list and in all of minor league baseball, that can offer a pair of double-plus pitches, but Stephenson is one of them. When it clicks, however, he’ll be as good as any prospect in the game. That last sentence sounds like a lot of what we’ve been hearing about Stephenson for the last few years, but it’s also something we’ve begun to see in this season over the last six weeks when things have clicked a lot more often than times that they haven’t. Jesse Winker came in at #41 on the list, which is up from the 44th spot on the preseason list. Let’s take a look at some of what Jeff Moore had to say: Winker is a plus hitter, and while his transition to Double-A took some time, he’s rounding into shape in much the way that has been expected of him for some time. Winker is hitting .333/.417/.505 since June began, which is a dramatic difference from the .229/.343/.314 that he hit in the first two months of the season. I will have an article tomorrow on what has led to the turn around for the outfielder. It’s no surprise that Stephenson and Winker were the only two prospects on the Top 50 for the Cincinnati Reds. While there may be several Reds in the discussion for the Top 100 when the season is over, those two guys stand out among the group at this point as the top prospects in the system that are in a group among themselves.

July 9, 201511 yr Author In last nights action pitching dominated. Robert Stephenson threw 6 shutout innings with a walk and 6 strikeouts. Jesse Winker went 1-3 with 2 walks. Tim Adleman allowed a run in 7 innings with a walk and 7 strikeouts. In 16 starts, 94.2 innings he now has an ERA at an even 2.00. He is 27 years old, but could be a bullpen piece. Patrick Schuster threw a shutout inning. The 24 year old lefty hasn't been scored on in 6 games since being traded to the Reds. Zack Weiss threw a shutout inning with a strikeout. The 23 year old has only given up 2 runs across his last 12 innings with 5 hits and 18 strikeouts. His era on the season in 34 innings is 2.91, he has K'd 46 and hitters are batting just .195 against him. Converted 12 of 13 save opps on the season. He was the Reds 6th Round pick out of UCLA in 2013. Should see some time with the Reds in September. Amir Garrett allowed 2 earned (4 total) in 5 innings with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Jonathon Crawford was charged with an unearned run in 4 innings with 4 strikeouts.
