July 9, 201511 yr Author Cincinnati Reds acquire RHP Miguel Celestino from the Boston Red Sox. Celestino is a big righty, a 6'6" 205 lb 25 year old who was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Seattle Mariners when he was just 17. He landed in Boston as a PTBNL along with Bill Hall in exchange for Casey Kotchman back in 2010, and he's flashed talent in spurts since then. SoxProspects.com notes that his fastball sits at 94-96 and can touch 100 mph, but command and control of that and his slider have been the main things holding back his development.
July 9, 201511 yr Author The Reds have signed Isaac Anesty, JD Williams (BA #401 ), Darren Shred (BA #329 )and have made the Miles Gordon (BA #187 ) signing official. This means the Reds have signed all of their top 25 round selections with the exception of 19th Rounder Mike Salvatore. Great job by the Reds to keep signing these guys. Additionally the Reds signed 27th Rounder Alejo Lopez SS out of Greenway HS in Phoenix (BA Rank #354 ).

July 10, 201511 yr Author 36th Round Pick has now signed on. UCF redshirt junior Mitchell Tripp decided to forgo his senior season and sign a professional contract with the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. The right-handed pitcher was drafted in the 36th round (1,075th overall) of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft on June 10. Tripp spent two seasons with the Knights, but did not make an appearance on the hill due to injuries. The Bellingham, Wash., native did peak interest of professional clubs by touching the mid-90’s during UCF Scout Day on Oct. 21. “Being a professional ball player is something that I have wanted to do my whole life,” Tripp said. “I am pretty excited about the opportunity that the Cincinnati Reds have given me.” The Reds took a wait-and-see approach in regards to signing Tripp, who made three appearances with the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs in the Florida Collegiate Summer League before being offered a contract. He recorded a save and posted a 0.00 ERA with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

July 11, 201511 yr Author Found this little nugget on Boyles, sounds like a promising lefty. Boyles was a big boy when drafted in 2013: 6'3", 270 lbs. Don't know if he's lost weight since, but that'd be one scary hombre to see 60 feet, 6 inches from you, I'd think. His scouting report indicates the 11th rounder had a low 90's fastball and a show-me curve when drafted. So far, two years of AZL and four games in Billings, the 19-year-old has gone 100 IP with 15 less hits than IP. He's K'ed one more hitter than IP. BB rate at 3.3. That's a pretty solid prospect. Underrated, IMO.

Debuting on the list from this years draft are the Number 1 pick Stephenson who comes in at #4 . 3rd Round pick Blake Trahan who comes in at #7 . 2nd Round pick Anonio Santillan who comes in at #9 . July 28, 201511 yr Author 1) Jesse Winker-OF Scouting grades: Hit: 65 | Power: 55 | Run: 40 | Arm: 40 | Field: 45 | Overall: 55 In the 2012 Draft, Olympia High School in Orlando had two top-level Draft prospects, both of whom went in the supplemental first round. One, right-hander Walker Weickel, went to the Padres. The other, Winker, went to the Reds six picks earlier and has been hitting his way up the organization's ladder since, reaching Double-A before his 21st birthday. Winker is one of the best pure hitters in the Minors, with as advanced an approach at the plate as many veterans. He works counts and draws a lot of walks, with an on-base percentage over .400 as he headed into the 2015 season. He's a line-drive machine capable of hitting doubles in bunches. There's power there, too, and while he won't sacrifice his approach for the long ball, he should start sending more balls over the fence as he matures. He may never be a Gold Glove winner, but he's developed into a dependable left fielder. As the best hitter, especially left-handed, the Reds have developed since Jay Bruce, Winker is often compared to the Reds' right fielder. He could be playing in the same outfield as him in the not too distant future.
July 28, 201511 yr Author 2) Robert Stephenson-RHP Scouting grades: Fastball: 70 | Curveball: 70 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 55 Stephenson began his pro career a bit slowly, not making his debut until the spring after he was drafted and making it to full-season ball for just eight starts. In his second season, though, he pitched at three levels, finishing in Double-A at age 20. Year three saw him stay all season in Double-A and take some lumps, though his stuff was still very good. It starts with a plus fastball that can touch the upper 90s. His curve is almost as good as the fastball, a big breaking ball he throws in the low 80s. Stephenson's changeup is still behind the other two pitches, but while it isn't effective as consistently, there are glimpses of it being an effective offspeed pitch with cutting action. Stephenson's biggest issues in 2014 were with his command, as the Futures Gamer saw his walk rate jump more than two walks per nine innings from the previous season. He still missed plenty of bats, but he was more a thrower than a pitcher for much of the season. Stephenson's stuff is still as electric as just about any pitching prospect in baseball. He'll pitch all of the 2015 season at age 22, with plenty of time to develop a better feel for pitching and become the frontline starter the Reds envisioned when they drafted him.
July 28, 201511 yr Author 3) Amir Garrett-LHP Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 45 | Control: 50 | Overall: 55 Garrett's dalliance with college basketball is now over, after two years at St. John's and then one sitting out at Cal State Northridge. Focusing on baseball full-time for the first time, Garrett showed glimpses of his enormous potential during his first prolonged taste of full-season ball. Despite his lack of pitching resume, Garrett brings some pretty big stuff to the table, especially for a lefty. His fastball sits in the 92-94 range and he's shown the ability to reach back for a little more while commanding it fairly well. His slider improved over the course of the year, though he could stand to tighten it up some more. He showed some feel for a changeup as well. At 6-foot-5, he has trouble keeping his delivery together, but his athleticism gives him a tremendous amount of upside. Garrett made some tremendous adjustments in 2014, and the Reds added him to the 40-man roster during the offseason. Now that he's truly invested in learning how to pitch, he has the chance to really take off.
