June 10, 201511 yr Author 28th Round Selection: RHP Ron Rossomando, Bunnell High School (Connecticut) Like Lopez, Rossomando was ranked well by Baseball America, coming in at 326th. He throws in the 87-89 MPH range and can hit 90. He’s got some projection though, listed at 6′ 5″ and 235 lbs. He has a curveball that will flash itself as a solid pitch, but often it’s well below-average. Plenty of buzz has surrounded Rossomando, whose 6-foot-5 frame and four-pitch arsenal have pro scouts enamored. In fact, 28 of Major League Baseball's 30 teams have contacted Rossomando in advance of June's First-Year Player Draft, creating questions about where the phenom hurler will be this time next year. "He's on everybody's radar," Bunnell coach Scott Szturma said. "He will be drafted; it's just a matter of how high. ... Both Ronnie and I have been emailing (MLB) guys left and right. June 10, 201511 yr Author 29th Round Selection: C Elih Marrero, Coral Gables High School (Florida) Elih Marrero is the son of Reds minor league manager Eli Marrero. He was the 124th ranked player in the draft according to Baseball America, so despite the Reds connection, he is likely unsignable. He’s strong behind the plate with a strong arm and good actions. He’s a switch hitter with a nice swing. He doesn’t project for too much power, but could hit for a good average in the future with good gap power. Marrero played a big role on USA Baseball's 18U National Team, which won the gold medal in 2014. Marrero hit a three-run homer against Mexico to send the U.S. to the gold-medal round. Meanwhile, Marrero, from Coral Gables (Fla.) High School, received Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention honors from 2012-14 and became a Second Team All-American in 2015. June 10, 201511 yr Author 31st Round Selection: 2B Ethan Skender, Metamora Township High School (Illinois) He’s a bit of a grinder type, listed at 5′ 11″ and 175 lbs. Brian Sakowski of Perfect Game had this to say about Skender: good hitting tools, chance to stick up the middle (I like him at 3B) – Has done nothing but hit the “heck” out of the ball and rake at PG events. Like him a lot.
June 10, 201511 yr Author The Reds have drafted 5 guys out of Canada so far, 1 from Hawaii and 1 from Puerto Rico. They have drafted 2 teammates from UNC Wilmington, 2 teammates from the State College of Florida Manatee and 2 players from the IVY League. 17 High School players. Some tough guys to sign, but they could save some money with some of the college picks and who knows it's worth a shot. Really like what they've done so far. Draft is almost complete.
June 10, 201511 yr Author Teddy Cahill from BA: I think there’s a lot to like about what the Reds did the last two days. Tyler Stephenson was the best catcher in the draft and they have had a lot of success developing high school catchers, which can be a risky demographic. Tanner Rainey represents great value at No. 71; Blake Trahan had some first round buzz; Santillan, Gordon and Kahaloa all have a lot of upside. The Reds have had a good week.
June 11, 201511 yr 6th Round Selection: RHP Jimmy Herget, South Florida The Reds took a somewhat polished pitcher here with the selection of Herget. He throws a sinker in the 89-93 MPH range and has touched a tad higher at times. He throws a good slider, an average curveball and an average change up. He mixes his pitches well. There are some questions as to whether he can start long term, partially due to his thin frame (6′ 3″ and 170 lbs) and partially due to his very low 3/4 arm angle that is nearly sidearmed. Scouts think he could move quickly as a reliever if he has to make that move. He was drafted out of high school by the Braves in the 40th round back in 2012. The Friday night starter for the University of South Florida as a junior, Herget has a track record of success as a three-year member of the rotation. He could potentially stay in that role or get to the big leagues in a hurry coming out of the bullpen. Herget really knows how to pitch, with a four-pitch mix he uses extremely well. He'll pitch with a fastball a tick above-average in the future with heavy sink, throwing it now in the 89-94 mph range. He adds and subtracts from it at will. Herget has two usable breaking balls, a solid average slider and an average curveball, as well as an average changeup, and he commands all four of them well. Herget does all of this from a low three-quarter arm slot, with a kind of Steve Cishek-like delivery. With a bulldog mentality, Herget could rush to the big leagues in a relief role, though his feel for pitching does give him the chance to be a back-end starter. Some analysts have stated he could be the fastest player in the entire draft to make the show, that's if he pitches out of the bullpen. Been compared to Pat Neshek. The game from which the video was taken was a no decision for Jimmy. Herget pitched 9 innings allowing no earned runs, giving up 7 hits, striking out 11, and walking 3. USF won the game 2-1 in 11 innings.
June 11, 201511 yr Author Reds have agreed to terms with right-hander Tanner Rainey. He will receive $432,950, or half the value of his No. 71 overall slot. ESPN’s Keith Law ranked Rainey 58th, while BA had him at 93, McDaniel had him at 118 and MLB.com had him at 122. ESPN referred to Rainey as a pure reliever who works in the mid-90s with an above-average slider to complement the heater. He’s a two-way player who has an intriguing bat but received more interest as a pitcher.

I'd probably wait on Ervin as he seems to be stuck in a funk again after starting the season on fire.

June 13, 201511 yr Author Kahaloa, Diaz, Jordan and Rucker are big signings this far. It's always big to sign the high school guys since they usually slide in the draft due to signability issues but are usually projected higher. Rucker wasn't a high school guy but has as much potential as anyone in this draft class for th Reds. They've saved some money on some of the college signings so far so hopefully they can a few more of the high school guys to sign rather than attending college.
