I really love the swing of Eugenio Suarez. The Reds absolutely robbed the Tigers in the Simon trade and that's without Jonathan Crawford making his Reds organizational debut yet.

 

Suarez has very nice pop in his bat and I think he will do big things for the Reds when he gets his chance. He's also only 22 years old. Found some video of some of his HR's this season, absolute bombs.

He actually turns 24 next month. He's a decent prospect that was blocked in Detroit. He should projet out to a .240-.260 hitter with mid-teens power in the big leagues. Not a game changer by any means but a nice return for a pitcher that was not in the Reds plans.

Shouldn't be much longer. Not much of a difference between the two leagues. A lot of the top prospects make the jump straight from AA. I'm not saying this is the case with Stephenson but there's no reason to rush him.

Pretty much. He's a high floor, low ceiling type of player. I see nothing about his minor league record that suggests potential all-star or top of the order hitter. Maybe more of a Mike Aviles. Solid, if unspectacular, big league guy. He is under team control longer than Cozart so that's a plus.

He's around 6 years younger than Cozart and isn't set to become a free agent until 2021. He put up numbers comparable if not better than Cozart did last season with the Tigers as a 22 year old in half the AB's. He's way too young to say he's Zack Cozart, right now sure he is but youth and potential are in his favor. Cozart is better with the glove, Suarez is improving though.

The Reds have had what I think is a solid draft thus far. They've done a good job of drafting a mix of both pitchers and hitters and getting guys with lots of upside in a draft that's fairly weak. I'll run down some of the more intriguing picks so far.

 

3rd Round Selection: SS Blake Trahan, Louisiana Lafayette

The state of Louisiana features two of the best college shortstops in this year's Draft. Louisiana State's Alex Bregman looks like a lock to go in the first 10 picks, while Trahan is a projected second-rounder who should supplant Jonathan Lucroy as the highest-drafted position player ever from Louisiana-Lafayette. Thought he played third and second base in deference to Bregman on the U.S. collegiate national team last summer, Trahan is capable of sticking at shortstop in pro ball. He has range to both sides, reliable hands and a strong arm. He tends to flip sidearm throws to first base, however, costing him some zip and accuracy. Trahan has well above-average speed but sometimes gets too power-conscious, which leads to swing and misses and harmless flyouts. He'll need to improve his pitch recognition and learn to tone down his approach to take better advantage of his quickness.

 

The shortstop was rumored to go as high as the late 1st round. He’s listed at 5′ 9″ and 180 lbs, so he isn’t a physically imposing guy. He does project to be a shortstop though as a professional, so he doesn’t need to be a power hitter of sorts. He’s got above-average speed to work with and a quick first step in the field. He’s had some struggles at times with his accuracy on his throws, but he’s got the arm strength if he can find more consistency.

 

Offensively he projects to have some gap power, but not much over-the-fence power currently or for him to grow into. His swing is unorthodox, but it’s worked for him to this point thanks to strong pitch recognition and good hand-eye coordination.

 

MLB Network said that he could go as high as 27th overall to the Angels. He walked more that he struck out in all 3 of his collegiate seasons.

 

4th Round Selection: CF Miles Gordon, St. Ignatius of Loyola HS (Canada)

The center fielder is listed at 6′ 1″ and 185 lbs. He’s a left handed hitter with good bat speed, but he doesn’t have much power potential. He also shows above-average speed and he knows how to use it well on the bases and in center field. His swing is more line drive oriented and he can use the entire field to spray the ball. He should stick in center field easily where his bat could play just fine.

 

At 6-foot-1, 170 pounds, Oakville, Ontario native Miles Gordon possess a skill set that has landed him a spot on the Canadian junior national team, and most recently, a commitment letter to the University of San Francisco (NCAA DI West Coast Conference).

 

Possessing plus-speed on the base baths and plus-range in either centre or right field, Gordon has established himself as one of the top five Canadian prospects in the upcoming 2015 MLB draft.

 

Baseball America had him #187 . 3rd youngest player in the draft.
