August 3, 201511 yr Author That's one of the drawbacks of signing these 16 year old kids. You can get guys with a world of potential but if they take a while to develop you risk losing them or have to call them up before you're ready. I wish they would institute a foreign player draft. No doubt. It stinks for the team that signs the kids to the Million dollar deals but never gets a return on their investment. It a gamble to sign a kid at such a young age, especially the international kids that are almost always raw and unrefined but signed due to their enormous tool potential.
August 3, 201511 yr Author I think both are on track. Duran is at the AA level right now, so that gives him the rest of this season and all of next to continue to develop. He hasn't seemed fazed by AA pitching this season. I've always heard the biggest jump a player makes in the minors is the jump from A ball to AA. For Duran to put up the numbers he has all while striking out at the levels he has is pretty impressive. He's made strides, seems like he has multiple hits every single night. Yorman will be alright seeing that next year might be a rebuilding year and the Reds will probably need a Left Fielder assuming they can get rid of Byrd in a waiver deal. They won't let him go that easy he will at least make the team as a bench piece.

Duvall won't be the favorite but he'll be in the mix assuming he's not an absolute train wreck out there. He homered in his first Louisville AB last night, the power is real and the plate discipline lacking a bit but he will be in the mix.

I think Duvall's value is as a power option off the bench and a utility guy at the corner spots. I just don't see him being an every day player at the ML level.

August 3, 201511 yr Author Alex Blandino makes his AA debut tonight. He was a 1st Rounder last season out of Stanford. He's been really impressive and looks like the 2B of the future right now depending on how he handles the jump to AA will help make that clearer. He has surprising pop and a great eye at the plate. At 22 years old and an advanced college bat he is advancing quickly and could debut next season at some point. 18 Doubles, 2 Triples, 7 HR's, 35 RBI's .294 AVG, .370 OBP this year at High A Daytona. August 3, 201511 yr Author Blandino doubled in his first AA PA. Also Sal Romano making his AA debut as the SP tonight. Romano is the Reds #17 prospect, Blandino the #7 .
August 4, 201511 yr Author Romano pitched 2 scoreless innings giving up 0 hits, 0 walks and striking out 2. The game was postponed so his debut was cut short but he got off to a nice start.

August 4, 201511 yr Author Lamb's line for his 2nd start for the Bats. 6 IP 4 H 1R 3BB 6K 6 of the 8 position players he faced have spent time in the majors at one point or another. He's proved he can pitch at the highest level of Minor league ball all season long.

Reds newly acquired prospect John Lamb this season in the AAA Pacific Coast League in 2015: 94 IP, 80 H, 28 ER, 7 HR, 29 BB, 96 K, 2.67 ERA. Both lefties. Matz is 24 and Lamb just turned 25. Both have similar arsenals and builds with Lamb being a little bigger. Difference is Matz is a top 30 prospect in the game and Lamb isn't even in the top 150. Before Lamb's TJ operation he was a top 15 prospect in the game in his own right and if these numbers are any indication along with what the scouts are saying he seems to be back nearly to his top form. He's definitely the wild card in the Cueto deal. Im glad to have him aboard.
