If highlands has to eat crow that night it just may be the end of the world as we know it.

I guess most of my camping and backpacking gear would suffice for prepping for a while without even having to really go all out prepping.. Most preppers preach that water and fire are the two most important things and those are covered in the backpack with a Life Straw, water treatment, numerous ways to make fire along with some MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat), other easy to carry food items, toiletries, warm clothes and such, I could probably make it for quite a while in a S hit the fan situation. Once I get my Dillon 650 fully supplied and up and running, the ammo situation will be well at hand.

Do any of my fellow members do any kind of prepping? I personally have a "get home bag" in my truck and also a "bug out bag" at my residence. I'm interested to see what new stuff is out there. I will be attending the Cincinnati Preparedness Expo this weekend.

 

While I understand what the difference in purpose between a get home bag and bug out bag, what is the difference between their contents? In otherwords, what is in one but not in the other and vice versa?

I just assume I probably don't want to live on this planet if it comes to these extreme measures unless I found Darryl and Rick.

 

Mrs. doomer wants me to get a generator, but I am holding out for the nuclear variety. :thumb: If apocalypse happens a gas generator will only hold off the inevitable a few days at best anyway. For heat, I have a propane fireplace, a grill with an extra propane tank and a kerosene heater with extra fuel.

 

So you hold out for a fision generator, but believe propane will be readily accessible for heat and cooking ?

My assumption is that if something were to happen which would require such extreme measures, it would be temporary. Eventually society would begin to reorganize again on the local level. So one would just have to be able to hold out for a short to medium period of time.

 

Something like a terrible hurricane or tornado could result in emergency relief reaching you take a few days.

Only for a limited time. It is the big tank in my yard. Although, if money were no object, I would have a good sized generator and fuel supply. I am only prepped for a few days anyway. After that, we wouldn't have anything to cook. If its doomsday, then I should be right in my element. :clap:

If anything bad enough ever happens in our life time to where you would need to be "prepped" to survive, everyone is probably going to die anyway, so prepping will be irrelevant. Just my two cents.

I agree...I am not worried about apocalypse. But I have been in situations where roads were closed for well over a week, and there was no food within walking distance. Fortunately, we were expecting company before the blizzard hit and had lots of extra food which we shared with some neighbors. We kept power, but it just as likely could have been out just as long. Go back to the ice storms in Lex a few years ago...some were without power for weeks.

That kinda stuff I don't consider "prepping." That's just being prepared. That may sound silly and like the same thing, but to me there is a difference.

I consider prepping trying to be ready for anything type deal, sort of like Katrina where you had to be ready for utilities not operating, transportation cut off, food sources cut off and you had to be able to fend off looters and possibly rioters.

 

What do you consider prepping? I know TV portrays preppers as militia types but I just take that as TV spreading their usual ignorance.
