For the record, my daughter is a very proud graduate of Notre Dame Academy and she participated in athletics. We also felt it would be a good lesson for her to do work study to appreciate the sacrifice we made to pay the tuition. She was responsible for sweeping the classrooms on the second floor three days a week, it turns out that with all the extra curricular commitments that it was me sweeping the floors to often, so that only lasted one year! By the way, prior to her freshman year at NDA, she lettered at a public school, so look elsewhere when trying to find sour grapes in my post!

There have been private schools that gave out to much aid to students that were athletes, that was documented aid, yes public schools have done bad things to, so it is possible.

I believe he was an all state RB and I know for sure he was selected to play in the KY vs TN game in the 1985-86 year. I'm quite certain he he could've played collegiately in at least 1 sport. However he joined the Army and was an Army Ranger I believe as well. He also wrote a book called "Life Without my Point Guard". It's a good read. Here's Amazons description of the book:

All that may be true and it is certainly commendable but it doesn't change my opinion on this matter.

To your first question: As far as I know, every private school has at least a few kids there on financial assistance. This is not some big secret.

 

To your second one, you're asking the wrong question. Private schools don't operate with the same boundaries that public school systems have imposed upon themselves. Whether anybody wants to be honest and admit that is up to them.

 

It's a two-way street, though. Public schools don't want to admit that they self-impose boundaries for their districts. Private schools don't want to admit that their boundaries are oftentimes significantly larger than the public schools in their area that they compete with.

 

Just be honest, people. Stop obfuscating.

Schools and fan bases can put up all the rhetoric they want to either defend or make accusations, but the reality is there are ways that schools WHO ARE ALLOWED TO, to attract students that may if rules were different wouldn't be able to attend or even look at enrolling in certain schools.

 

On this site you can not use the "R" word, so that is fine, call it what you want whether it is scholarships or Tuition Assistance or whatever. It all comes down to that different school districts have different rules as do private schools vs public schools.

 

It is what it is and because of the disparity in rules and boundaries there will never be a level playing field. The coach chose not to participate in the All A tourney because he didn't feel his team had a fair shot when competing with other schools in the tournament. It's his choice. Right or wrong, there will always be plenty of people standing on both sides of the argument.

The issue there was bad, was addressed in formal KHSAA actions. Some would say the punishment was fairly light and even somewhat of a whitewash given the circumstances. You can Goggle up the official specifics if desired.

 

The accusations are serious and they would go well beyond an All-A event given that there is only one single KHSAA tournament bracket for basketball. So bringing up these sort of accusations in this manner is, at best, odd.

The Khsaa. They should have a file at each school on each athlete that's open to the Khsaa for review. It would end speculation of secrecy. Just my opinion.

 

Sounds good. Let's do the same thing for kids at public schools as well. Who is to say that there aren't communities out there where the local heros get hooked up. Where as one kid is paying for tuition, the other kids are paying for Jordans and other stuff.
