May 22, 201511 yr Author To be fair, this thread was started with the intention to go down this path. No it wasn't. I feel it is a legitimate question. I was hoping for an adult conversation on the topic. I think Joker gave a very good response.
May 22, 201511 yr No it wasn't. I feel it is a legitimate question. I was hoping for an adult conversation on the topic. I think Joker gave a very good response. It's not a legitimate question. A criminal gunned down a cop. Why is there no outrage? Because no one feels sorry for the criminal. There's no debate, or discussion of "was it a justified killing". Maybe I'm alone in this, but you can't compare the reaction to something like this to the reaction you get in instances like the Freddie Gray case. There's no debate here. Dude is a cold-blooded murderer. To me it's simple, when you're in a field that's duty is to protect and serve and you kill an unarmed person, scrutiny is not only deserved, but warranted.

May 22, 201511 yr So. Do you feel the same about the police officer that killed Akai Gurley in New York? Didn't he leave an infant behind? What did he do wrong? What does that have to do with this thread? Haven't there been threads about that? Do we have to talk about that in every police related thread? Do I have to mention every time a police officer may or may not have been wrong every time one is killed in the line of duty?
May 22, 201511 yr It is sad these threads turn out this way. Instead of celebrating her life and service incendiary posts are made right off that bat that deflect from the true story. Don't forget the non-sense that followed.

We disagree as to the legitimacy of the question. I never mentioned anything about Freddie Gray, nor was I alluding to it. I'm saying society should be outraged over the killing of an officer. Without police officers anarchy rules and we have no safe society. Absolutely scrutiny is warranted. Never have said otherwise. Rioting and looting is not warranted.

It's horrific. What should the every day person do to show their outrage?
May 22, 201511 yr No it wasn't. I feel it is a legitimate question. I was hoping for an adult conversation on the topic. I think Joker gave a very good response. There is no outrage because nobody can defend the criminal. When police officers kill citizens, there is an issue as to whether the use of deadly force was warranted and/or justified. Police officers are trained to handle these types of situations, and right or wrong, criticism will follow those types of incidents. Social media creates havoc in situations like this because it allows everyone, whether informed or uninformed, to voice their opinions. That tends to polarize things, which makes it worse. There is no outrage over this because it's indefensible.
May 22, 201511 yr I feel it is a legitimate question. A criminal that tries to take an officers weapon away then fights him is killed by the officer, in self defense and outrage, looting and rioting occur. You post something flippant. Suggesting that the officers could target a certain race due to the murder of the officer. And you posted something flippant to start the whole thread off on the wrong path. Your post had the same tone of posts that take place when a white person is killed by a black person and people wonder what Al Sharpton has to say. And if you look at posts by other members it's easy to see I wasn't alone in my thinking. If you don't know the difference between the Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Freddie Gray situations and this situation then maybe you should start your post asking what the difference is between those situations and this one instead of asking where is the outrage, protesting and rioters at? When was the last time ANYBODY rioted, protested or express outrage at a cop being murdered when the person who shot the cop was rightfully gunned down and justice was served? Some folks want to play along with you but I'm living a no nonsense life. You knew what you were doing with your post. I ain't falling for that crap.

That's my point, society is upside down when an officer is killed and we just shrug our shoulders. When a criminal is killed, instead of waiting for the facts, there is rioting and looting. I ask, what it seems, some posters feel is a legitimate question and you don't agree. That's fine. Doesn't make it crap anymore than yours.

Doesn't make it crap anymore than yours. So you want rioting and protesting and outrage when a cop is murdered? Fine, let's go to Omaha and burn up the shooter's home and neighborhood. Will that make you feel better? What kills me is that I have seen an outpouring of sympathy and concern nationwide for this slain officer and that's what people were asking for as recently as the last slain officer. Now you want outrage, rioting and protesting. Maybe you'll get it next time an officer is slain since you want that kind of lunacy to take place.
May 22, 201511 yr There's only outrage when the supposed good guy does something bad. Exactly. And unfortunately in some cases the outrage, protesting and rioting is cultivated off of a lie and misinformation.
May 22, 201511 yr If people want to protest over this there are some things to protest... Sentencing guideline for violent criminals, should this guy have been in prison instead of on the street? Funding for local police department, more manpower = officer safety in most situations Funding for better equipment, did they have top level protection vest or the bare (cheapest) minimum Why wasn't a warrant/felon (SWAT) task force used? When is our city going to get serious about crime and clean up our streets? There are a lot of things that could be protested and questions that could be asked when an officer is killed, yet most are overlooked or out right ignored. Calling for looting or vandalism is crazy and in no way warranted...but there is an honest discussion about officer safety that could be made.
