From the story, here is the penalty:

He has no prior offenses, but will now have six points on his license and could face hefty fines and 93 days in jail.

Scariest part of that story for me was police first turned around to cite him after clocking him going 79 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. If the police start pulling people over for going 9 MPH over on the highway, I am in trouble.

It would have been cheaper for him to buy an airline ticket to Germany, rent a car, and drive the unrestricted parts of the autobahn.

I wonder how fast the police car will go that followed him?

Chevy Caprice (155), Dodge Charger (152) and Ford Police Interceptor (Taurus) (149) all have been tested to around 150mph. The Ford for example cuts power and will not exceed 150 due to programming.

If it was an older Crown Vic they they are speed limited to 129 and the various SUV's are in the 130-139 range.
