Unless AP is a very tired horse I didn't see anything that would make me think Tale can make up the 7 lengths difference of the Preakness. If AP is beat I think it will be a horse that didn't run that day. I just didn't see AP exerting himself much which leads me to think he will fire on Belmont day.

 

I agree, but a dry track might help considerably.

 

Todd Pletcher thinks he might have something to say about the Belmont winner considering the fresh horses that he has that didn't run in the Preakness. AP is the best on paper, and you know the rest. You also can't leave out Murphy's law. If I bet AP, when the gates open, he'll just stand there and act like he's never been to a race before. So, to keep everybody happy, I won't bet on AP. :lol2:

I had Gary Stevens on Charismatic @ 25-1 and also had Silver Charm who was about 7-1 if I remember correctly.

I never bet money to show even on long shots. If they run third you usually get about 6 bucks for show on a 50-1 shot. Sometimes it's a little more, it depends on how much is in the "pool." Risking two bucks to win 6 bucks, isn't that about the same "money wise" as betting a favorite?

I would think it means something too: 1) a fresher horse at least; 2) Tale of Verve could have run The Derby but didn't, so maybe Joel is concerned the horse will scratch before the Belmont; and/or 3) he just thinks Frosted has a better chance of winning.

Saw an article one time where someone had analyzed the performances of horses that jockeys had jumped from one to another. Don't remember the details but they didn't fare all that well. I thought it was surprising as who knows the horses better than the jocks?

Well to be fair it depends on the reason for choosing one horse over another. If I have a choice in a $5000 claiming race of riding Old Roy at 8-1 for Trainer Jim Bob who trains 30 horses at the track I am riding or Fast Boy at 4-1 for Trainer Joe Willie who has 2 horses.......I'm going to ride Old Roy if I think it is going to get me several mounts over the next 3 months.

Trainer Dale Romans sent out Belmont Stakes contender Keen Ice Wednesday morning for a workout at Churchill Downs.

 

Keen Ice, owned by Donegal Racing, worked six furlongs in 1:13.60 over a fast track with Tammy Fox aboard and galloped out seven furlongs in 1:27.80.

 

 

 

"He's doing well," Romans said. "He's picking it up every pole and had a lot of energy galloping out. He has just been so good even before the (Kentucky) Derby and he just keeps on improving. I think the further the better. A mile- and-a-half shouldn't be a problem. I really like my chances."

Mubtaahij, 8th in the Kentucky Derby, had a three-furlong workout Wednesday morning at Belmont Park in preparation for the 147th Belmont Stakes on June 6.

 

Trained by Mike de Kock, Mubtaahij covered the three furlongs in 38.05 seconds on a fast Belmont Park main track. The 3-year-old is owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum and will be ridden in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont by Irad Ortiz Jr. after having Christophe Soumillon in the saddle for the Run for the Roses.

Anybody using the machines at Turfway had better watch your winning tickets. I had 5 winning tickets to cash at Turfway, so I walked up and inserted my tickets. The machine reads "not a winning ticket." I knew they were winners, so I went to another machine, it read "2 winning tickets." Finally, I got all the cash for the 5 tickets. I saw the guy that takes care of the machines, so I asked him about it. He said people get mad and put all kinds of things into the machines, like paper wads and even cigarette butts.
