The big 3 NKY counties certainly helped Bevin:

Boone:

Bevin - 4,014

Heiner - 1,387

Comer - 1,346

Scott - 284

Campbell:

Bevin - 2,451

Comer - 1,061

Heiner - 850

Scott - 194

Kenton:

Bevin - 3,861

Comer - 2,588

Heiner - 1,273

Scott - 331

TOTAL:

Bevin - 10,326

Comer - 4,995

Heiner - 3,510

Scott - 809

I guess Comer picked the wrong spots to campaingn. :lol2:

He's got a few maps like that as well, but it's in South Central KY. Places like Warren, Allen, Monroe... they went 60, 70, even 80+ percent for Comer. Couldn't begin to explain why other than selective on-the-ground campaigning.

There was nothing here in way of 'on the ground' activity for any candidate. No flyers, no door to door - nothing. Just the TV ads (that were not good to help make a decision).

Did the Big farming counties go for Comer?

Unfortunately, I do not think either, or both together for that matter, can win the big race....

Agreed. KY is a stronghold for the Democrats for Governor. And they've done such a bang up job to deserve to hold onto it.

Perhaps as much a function of Republican ineptitude in Governor races, as we saw in this year's primary. Then the one time a Republican wins, Fletcher mucks it up.

The one Republican candidate over the past 30 years or so that I thought was very solid and would have been a very good Governor was Larry Forgy.

The problem is we don't know what some of those R candidates would have done, we do know that the D Governors have been inept. Although I believe we've moved up to 47 or 48 in the worst run states listings. We were 50 a few years back so that's something I guess. In 2013 we were one of only 3 states to run a deficit. That takes some doing.

Comer is from Monroe and attended WKU.

The current governor is fairly popular even among Republicans in my county, a stronghold for Republicans. An approval rating north of fifty percent this late in his tenure is pretty astounding. Apparently he has done enough to keep most voters fairly satisfied. Compare that with McConnell's numbers , or any other state politician for that matter. Now, Louie Nunn and Ernie Fletcher, the last two Republican governors... they were just flat AWFUL!!!!! Hence, Conway will win easily!

1. Yes Conway will win, maybe closer than expected but I think he wins by 6 points or more with 53% or more of the vote

2. Last time Kentuckians had a chance to say McConnell was 16 points higher than the best democratic challenger...that's with there being 500,000 more democrats than republicans in the state. There must be quite a few democrats that like him.

3. Fletcher set the GOP back a decade or more in the politics of whose going to be Governor

I'm gonna say it will be 8 pt or 9 pts but you may be right I wouldn't be shocked if its 6.

McConnell won despite his low popularity. His approval was two points lower than Obama among KY voters. If it had been, say, Beshear vs McConnell, McConnell would have lost.

I think to a degree your right. That doesn't say much for Grimes, does it?

No it doesn't. Maybe on another level it says something about KY voters, particularly older white men to send a young woman to Washington. More times than I care to remember I heard comments like " I hate that McConnell but that little girl will get eaten alive up there. I think some, particularly the older crowd, just can't fathom " a young woman doing a man's job." I think for many of them when they got in that voting booth wanting to vote against the Turtle, they just couldn't pull the trigger because of some deeply held beliefs. They chose the guy they didn't like who knew his way around DC over the woman who should be home cutting up taters.
