Missouri town elects first black mayor; 80% of the police, city attorney, water supervisor resign

 

Born and raised in tiny Parma, Missouri, Tyrus Byrd, a Christian missionary and the city clerk of Parma, decided she wanted to give running for mayor a shot. She beat the incumbent mayor, a white man, by 37 votes. Before she could take office, police officers and city employees scrambled like roaches with the light flipped on:

 

Tyrus Byrd will be sworn in as mayor on Tuesday evening, April 14, at the Parma Community Building. According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately.

 

Mayor Ramsey said the city's attorney, the clerk and the waste water treatment plant supervisor also turned in resignation letters citing "safety concerns."

And this is a story why?

 

Not uncommon to see resignations after a newly elected leader.

There has to be more to this than just what those headlines seem to want to portray.

Poor article. Heck, there isn't even enough information there to call it an article. Who knows what's going on, not enough info to make any kind of an opinion.

The link is from the Daily Kos. Surely they wouldn't post anything inflamitory or without merit to play up to their extreme leftist agenda would they?

First link is FOX Radio! The second it a local Fox TV station. It's a shame that this country is at a point where one side can't report or post something without some on the other saying there is an "agenda".

Yeah, "agenda", the go to word people use when they disagree with an opinion or issue. It doesn't matter the size of the town, but as soon as a black mayor is about to take office, they resign? And the old mayor stated "safety concerns"?

It's a town of 750 people. There were only 6 officers - 2 full time and 3 part time resigned.

How many loyal Democrats in Kentucky resigned state jobs and took "merit" jobs a few years ago when Ernie Fletcher was elected?

Also MAYBE, just MAYBE it has something to do with a mayor that had served for 37 years and those that resigned were afraid of what new leadership might uncover?

They didn't give a reason for the resignations so I am not sure why they did. I can tell you I have had a job where they replaced my boss and I took the first job I could get to not work for him. I wasn't in a position to resign but it didn't take me long to find another job because I knew I couldn't work for him. And race did not apply to this situation. I know officers that changed departments when another mayor was brought in. Maybe the writing was on the wall.

LOL, again, how can it be considered "left wing propaganda" when Fox even reports it? Just because a story appears in a left or right wing news wire doesn't mean it's an agenda or propaganda.

It's just odd that they all resigned about the same time. Then add to it that the mayor is black. You may be right on what I quoted you above, as the new mayor said that she will "clean up the city".

The intent of the article was to highlight racism. If you remove the word "black", no person would bat an eye.

 

This article/blurb highlights what is wrong with journalism. It is laziness. The author may be spot-on that the resignations were racially motivated, but no evidence was given other than people resigned. Did the new Mayor campaign on cleaning house when taking office, like many politicians do? Was their corrupt behaviors that were to be exposed by the newly elected, regardless of the race?

Maybe they quit because she's a woman.

Just as plausible.
