Tyler played a heck of a game against Ballard, particularly shooting the ball. It was the best I have seen him play. But, having said that, D1 is a whole different ball game at the highest level. I agree with some other comments about the Mid-South being strong, but most of those kids are at that level because they couldn't make it at the higher level (I know, some are for character reasons).

 

Can Tyler play at D-1 level -- that is not for me to judge. The thing about anything in life, you only have to have 1 coach like you to get a scholarship. The way I look at it, no matter the level, if mom and dad don't have to pay for the education, that's all that matters. Because players like Tyler are most likely (of course, you can never say never) not playing basketball at a competitive level in five years anyway.

 

On a side note, I have heard a lot this year about Tyler being sick during games. I hope this isn't an epidemic and we can see the real Hagen Tyler healthy all the time.

There have been years that Georgetown and UPIKE would have finished near the top of the OVC. The Mid-South Conference is no joke.

 

I love MidSouth basketball, but none of those teams are beating a top OVC team any year. And, I agree, there have been some good teams in NAIA, but D1 is a different level. Are there players who would do a great job for the best OVC team, no doubt. But, on a consistent basis, night in and night out, MidSouth teams don't compare at spots 4-8 where a 16-game conference schedule is decided.

Hagen had 4 D1 offers when he committed to NKU. He's a no doubt Division 1 basketball player. It's not like the NKU offer was a fluke.

 

Hagen chose to ask out of his NKU letter. It was his personal choice. If you called John Brannen or any of the staff at NKU, they would tell you they're upset he asked for his release. He would have been a major contributor there next year.

 

Hagen signed because he wanted to play for Coach Bezold. Coach Bezold is no longer there, so Hagen isn't either.

 

If you want to sit here and say Hagen isn't going to NKU because he isn't good enough then you're just being ignorant, obtuse and contrary.

The debate, though, is fair when you have a small number of D1 offers at the level that NKU and , say, Samford are at this time. 300+ D1 schools passed on offering so that , by sheer logic, says that you are not a "definite" D1.

 

Maybe those of you have watched him a lot (I have not) know that the other 300 are wrong. You may be right. However, it's not fair to criticize those who question the D1 issue. They, too, may be right and have a lot of schools who apparently agree.

I don't think I've thrown shade. I'm making my opinion based on what I saw. He's a good scorer but I just don't see him matching up against other d1 players I've seen. Not a slam on Hagen.
