Calipari's Players Earning & Projections For Current Players

Quincy Miller and CJ Leslie might do things differently if they had another chance. Those are big guys with crazy athleticism.

There are tons of big guys with crazy athleticism. Either you can play or you can't at this point. Cal can improve their draft position because of the hype surrounding him. Not because he coaches them up and makes them better players. That's two different things. Harrelson and Liggins got better playing against high quality competition everyday. Not because Cal gave them the magic elixir to make them better players.

The facts speak for themselves. Cal is great at not only selling his program but getting players ready for the NBA. His track record speaks for itself. Anyone who doesn't see it and thinks all of the players he sends to the NBA would be drafted as high and as soon as they are getting drafted are either jealous or just don't understand the preparation that goes into the time spent in Cals system.

He he teaches the players to play together and as a team instead of individuals. They have to because when they reach the NBA they will be playing on a team full of all stars. UK prepares them to work as a team in those surroundings.

Wrong. It's already been fully admitted that their draft position is influenced by being at UK. Just don't act like they weren't going to get drafted and be a success or failure strictly because of Cal.

When Harrellson and Liggins and Orton fail in the NBA it's because Cal isn't there to keep making them better? When Wall, Bledsoe and Cousins sign their max contracts it will be because Cal made them better at UK? Anthony Davis being an MVP candidate is because of Cal?

That's true, but there's still not enough credit given to Cal for what he's able to do when other coaches get talent and they can't maintain their draft status and/or their guys are out of the pros quicker.

Yeah, Cal has so much talent they play less and their deficiencies aren't as glaring because they play less minutes. See: Willie Cauley-Stein as a First Team All American. :D

So what you're saying now is that UK players last longer in the pros because of Cal and not their true overall talent and ability?

I gave you Liggins and Harrelson. Other than that everyone else I expected to go pro whether they were at UK or not.

Patterson's game improved because he finally developed a jumper. What does that have to do with Cal? Cal wasn't with him when he was shooting in the gym.

I don't disagree with your premise Purple, but I would add Darius Miller to the list. No one outside of Mason County thought he would be drafted into the NBA coming out of High School.

Willie was ranked behind these guys...so if WCS was a sure fire NBA Draft pick coming out of HS I guess all of the centers projected ahead of him are in the league now, right? Most everyone expected WCS to be a project and few thought he'd be possible lottery pick when he came out of high school.

Nerlens was drafted in Lottery 2012

Austin got sick Tarczewski projected 2nd round (coming back for Sr Season)

Adams drafted 12th in the 2013 draft

Ridley projected late 2nd round to undrafted

Coleman redshirted (sat out post season ban season)

Parker appears to be returning to UCLA for Sr season

Cleare transferred to Texas

Scott will return for his Sr Season

Woodburry expected to return to Iowa to poke more people in the eye next season as a Sr.

Would Willie be like the majority of these guys if he had went to Kansas St, Iowa St or even Wichita St? How many of them would be looking at being in the top half of the first round had they came to UK and got coached by Cal and Payne?

No. Because at Kansas State, Iowa State and Wichita State he isn't practicing against NBA talent every single day. Of course he wouldn't get better there. You get better playing and practicing against and with top tier talent. That's also the reason it took him 3 years to become a lottery pick than one. He wasn't better than anyone for 2 years. Thanks, Cal.

You are missing the point we are making. For every John Wall coming out of High School there are a dozen WCS's and those are the ones that Cal makes better and now becomes a lottery pick. Cal has gotten a lot of the top recruiting classes, but what he does with those classes is also makes some of the bordeline players even better where they get to fulfill their dreams of being drafted in the NBA where they probably wouldn't have gotten that opportunity playing for just any other coach.

The numbers don't lie. There have been more drafted into the NBA from UK since Cal got here than any other college in the country. For every Anthony Davis you throw out there you forget about the Darius Miller's who also get there but weren't even thought about getting that chance when they started their college career.

There is a reason so many get to the League under Cal's coaching.

Look at all the top players of high School since 2010 and look to where they went in the draft.

For Instance 2014 Karl Anthony Towns was the 9th ranked player on the ESPN top 100. I think he will be going much higher than 9th in the draft and possibly 1st overall. Towns had very little inside game when he got to UK. Coaching got him to where he is now.

My point is not really where they go in the draft but more of how many get drafted in the end.

And you all are missing my point. Those dudes are drafted higher because of the Kentucky Effect but those dudes were going to get drafted anyways. Name one player not named Josh Harrelson, DeAndre Liggins and Darius Miller under Cal wouldn't have gotten drafted had they gone anywhere else. Name one.

And keep in mind that Patterson, Miller, Liggins and Harrelson were Billy G's guys also. Had Cal been at UK then it's highly likely only Patterson would have played for UK.

Cal is in the running to get 7 of the top 20 incoming players. Those dudes will get drafted regardless of where they go. If they go to UK they likely get drafted higher. Hell, I bet the Harrisons would get drafted higher had they gone somewhere else.

Just so you know, the Orton post was kind of in jest. He shouldn't have gone pro when he did and I don't think Cal even thought he should have when he went. That said, being under Cal his first year at UK did apparently get him prepared, he's still in the league I believe.

I was expecting Bledsoe, Lyles, Goodwin and Young to be one and done. Booker not so much initially but by January I figured he was gone too.

You expected Bledsoe to be a one and done before he got to Kentucky? #12 PG in the class and overall ranked #136 (behind John Hood) according to ESPN. I guess playing against Wall made him a one and done, Cal Sucks...Can't Coach

Cal is a great coach. You are saying he sucks. Not me. I'm saying Cal's coaching has no bearing on anyone's NBA success but his Kentucky Effect does improve their draft position. That's all I am saying.

I say the same thing about Coach K and Bill Self as well because they all regularly pull in the top talent in all of college basketball. Self made Wiggins an excellent pro? Self made Wiggins the #1 pick in the draft?
