Like I said before whoever they had backing up Tierney last year couldnt get the ball up the floor against SK. I think that might be a problem. Bovard and Jacobs are both good players but as far as I can remember neither one of them have much experience playing point.

You have to admit though no one replacing Timmy is coming in with the hype Timmy had.

Oh, the irony. You are the one that kept telling everyone that Tierney was not that good .

It will be interesting. But I don't think you should judge Timmy's replacement on one game, especially a game where he had to play against the best point guard in Northern Kentucky. With Bovard and Jacobs at the other guard positions, that will relieve the point guard of some pressure.

I guess your right but whoever will replace Tim will have a time handling Holmes' fullcourt press all game long. That's another reason why I think Holmes should be slightly favorite over CovCath next year.

Bo and TJ can handle the man-to-man. If its a zone press, they've got 3 guards that can handle it.

Thats false. I just said he wasn't better than Duran or Bibbins.

I wouldnt make that statement with too much confidence.

You wouldn't because you have not watched them play very much.

We obviously disagree. I'll stand by my comments. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I've watched Bo and TJ maybe 50 to 75 more games than you. Just a guess but probably accurate, right?

To be honest, Covcath will be good no matter who plays point guard and will be one of the only teams, if any, to pose a threat to beat holmes this year. I still think that while covcath is pre season #1, Holmes will take over that after 2 or 3 weeks. The point guard position is what will make Holmes better than CC this year.

You obviously dont know how many times I have seen Kurt and Todd play. Im not putting them down in anyway. They are both very good basketball players but not point guards. Kurt knows how to play point and has seen the same kind of press before because of the time he spent playing with the Tarheels but the experience of making sure you dont put yourself in any bad positions and the tempo you need to break a press like Holmes' is what will hurt. Tim was a true PG and understood these things and thats what it takes not just good basketball players.

Some nice points in there...also Holmes will probably press the whole game this year since the bench runs so deep. That will really make it tough on some teams. Also when Tim was out last year, Covcath struggled alot which goes to show that not having a true pg will hurt them this year. But with players like Tj and Bo they will still be one of the top 2 teams in the region simply because a lot of the time those two will be the best two players on the floor except for in a certain few games ;)

Do you all think you can keep this thread alive until the season starts? :jump:

Try to   :thumb:

Upon finding out that Drew Simons will be returning to the Highlands program, my outlook has become a little brighter for them. He will provide another scoring threat for the Birds. If Willie can just get rebounding and good defense out of his two senior centers, I think they might be a good club, that pull an upset or two

Highlands definetly has the size to compete next year, but like you said Willie needs to get good defense and solid play from his two centers. The guard play will be decent simply because of Simpson. Both centers are gonna be taller than most teams big men but they need to develop a little more. But I agree Highlands could definetly pull an upset or two this year.
