When you say summer ball, was this a school team or a club team? I know that all coaches at HHS work together to help multi sport athletes to compete in all sports. What is frowned on, is an athlete that misses practice due to playing on a non school team. ie; an AAU Bball team or a summer baseball club. I know for an absolute fact that Dale encourages everyone of his players to be involved in other activities than football. As far as bball, HHS program would be better served to have some kind of involvement with the grade school kids. Willy loses a lot of talent to football at the grade school level.

 

It was a summer baseball team but it was compiled of many highlands players and maybe 4 or 5 kids from other schools. Dale pretty much told the kid if he played baseball and missed one practice that his chances of starting were going to be slim to none and he had played and started the year before.

 

But as far as your comment about basketball, you couldn't be any more right. I think if Willie would get a basketball league started like the fort thomas pee wee league, he could probably get more involvement from kids who just play football because they would be exposed to the program at a much younger age.

I have received word that Covington Catholic Assistant Varsity and JV Coach Dick Maile will probably not be with the team this year. I heard this a few days ago but wanted to confirm it. I don't think that BGP is the place to discuss the reasons for this.

 

This means that the two assistant coaches from last year (Maile along with Schrand) are gone. This also leaves the CCH program with three teams and three coaches (Steve Sorrell on the freshmen level, Kevin Listerman on JV (as well as Varsity assistant) , and Mike Listerman on Varsity).

 

From the impression I got last year, Schrand worked a lot with the guards, and Maile with the big guys. To me, it is strange to see a coaching staff upheaval after a regional title.

Hey nothin to talk about? Here you go. Holmes will not win the 9th region. Back in my day Holmes was usually the team you had go through to win the 9th. I see the difference. Coaching. Back then (late 70s-early 80s) Reynolds Flynn was the dawgs coach. His teams were focused, disciplined and very tough. Theres the difference and the reason Holmes even with all that talent will not win the 9th. Some posters have named players as the cause of Holmes recent demises. I think you should look at the coaching staff.
