April 2, 201511 yr I know people will say that it is early and that the MLB season is a marathon, not a sprint but is anyone concerned about the potential of Price hitting Hamilton down in the order. I believe that an early game is just as important as a game in August/Sept and that good managers have sense of urgency from day 1. I think if Hamilton cannot hit in the one hole, then he should be in AAA hitting 1st and getting better. The idea of him hitting seventh is worrysome. That creates a potential three auto outs at the end of your line up. What would you do with the line up with Billy if he is not hitting well enough early and how would you arrange the line up to start the season?
April 2, 201511 yr Hamilton Frazier Votto Mesoraco Bruce Byrd Phillips Cozart That's what it should be IMO. I imagine it will be: Hamilton Phillips Votto Frazier Bruce Byrd Mesoraco Cozart
April 2, 201511 yr I'm not against hitting Hamilton down in the order. I'm just not sure who you hit #1 in that case.
April 2, 201511 yr Hamilton Votto Frazier Phillips Mesoraco Byrd Bruce Cozart I start with that and get ready to make adjustments.
April 2, 201511 yr Author Hamilton Frazier Votto Mesoraco Bruce Byrd Phillips Cozart That's what it should be IMO. I imagine it will be: Hamilton Phillips Votto Frazier Bruce Byrd Mesoraco Cozart Not a bad line up. Not sure I am sold on Frazier in the two hole and I may want Byrd in the four based on his experience unless he proves he cannot hold up.
April 2, 201511 yr Author I'm not against hitting Hamilton down in the order. I'm just not sure who you hit #1 in that case. I would not be against it either if you didn't already have a very weak hitting 8 hitter and pitchers hitting. I think that would create a huge hole in your every day eight.
April 2, 201511 yr I really like this line up, Hamilton (when on and I stress "when") Votto (gets to bat with guy on first, huge hole on right side with Hamilton) Byrd (makes good contact, RBI in GABP, and right handed behind lefty) Meso (maybe best hitter last year) Bruce (lefty behind Meso, had off year will be better) Frazier (back to norm I think, strikeout rate is high bats around 260) BP (makes contact alot, no pressure, good hitter with 2 strikes, can not steal a base anymore) Cozart(unfortunately can not be Leake)
April 2, 201511 yr I think batting Bruce higher than 7th on this team is a mistake. I also start the season with Phillips 5 or higher. He is the best clutch hitter on the team and if you start the season with him in the 7 hole he is done for the year.

Don't know where you get this from. 17% of runner on base score when he is batting. That is not my infinite wisdom but bball reference. I want him hitting 6th. Between him, Scott Rolen, Ryan Ludwick, and Jonny Gomes, we have had the worse cleanup hitters in seven years.

Votto is far and away the most clutch hitter on the team.

He struck out 185 times last season, 185 times.
April 2, 201511 yr I am looking at batting average with runners in scoring position: 2014 Phillips .280 Votto .225 2013 Philips .338 Votto .291 I prefer Votto hitting second. if you put him at second, Phillips is the best hitter to put in in RBI / clutch hitting slot
