Reds Lineup

Featured Replies

Not if you look at the last two years based on the numbers I pulled. Feel free to prove me wrong. I am open minded. Go back 5 years to Votto's best seasons and yes Votto is clearly better. Which Votto will we get this year? Votto is a better hitter than Phillips and if he is healthy this year I am sure he will be better than Phillips in every way. The if healthy part is certainly a concern.

But I don't want to get sidetracked. My point is this ... put Votto wherever you think he works best. Personally, I like him at #2 . I think we need his OBP at the top because of the iffy OBP of Hamilton. Whatever ... put Votto where you want him. Then my point is Phillips needs to hit just after him because Phillips is the Reds best option to drive him and others in in the clutch.

I heard former Card Chris Dominguez made the opening day roster. :thumb:

Ok. I owe @Voice of Reason an apology. I read his earlier post where he gave stats for Phillips and Votto the last 2 years, but didn't see where he qualified it with preferring Votto to bat 2nd. That post was on the 1st page and when I didn't see the post I thought he edited a different post because I didn't realize the mobile site was on the 2nd page.

No big deal. It is easy to take written comments wrong and even easier to miss things in multi page threads. I appreciate you posting this.

This post was in reply to UKMF above.

Best hitter should be #2 .

That's exactly why Votto should be there

Can you be counted as a "hitter" if all you do is watch ball 4?

My post from the Votto thread:

Heard an interesting stat the other day. On balls in the strike zone Votto is hitting something stupid like .400. On balls out of the zone he's hitting well below .200.

But by all means, lets all keep harping on how much he swings.

Can you be counted as a "hitter" if all you do is watch ball 4?

If the number 2 hitter gets on first base a lot, the the Reds will be winning a lot of ball games this year

my issue with Votto was he struck out a lot more than he should have been. He can walk all he wants as long as his strikeouts don't increase

Price said today's lineup would look a lot like the everyday lineup....

It's:

Hamilton

Votto

Frazier

Mesoraco

Byrd

Bruce

Phillips

Cozart

I like Votto hitting second. Going 2-8 this lineup is in order of OPS.

I like it. If everyone stays healthy, it is a pretty formidable lineup
