One Year Ago Today We All Lost A True Friend - Birdsfan - One Year Anniversary

Featured Replies

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we lost one of the greatest friends any of us could hope for and a true legend here on BGP. I know, in my life, Dave was the very meaning of the words ‘best friend’. The impact he had on me, my wife and my family is immeasurable. What he meant to us and still means to us is hard to describe because I’ve known so few people that touched our lives the way Dave did. Suffice it to say he was more than just a friend; he was family, even more than family if that makes sense.

He taught me so much about life, lessons I try to live up to and fall so short simply because I haven’t the ability to see things the way he did. Nor do I have the intellect, patience or gentle kindness he was so gifted from God with. Although I try to think to myself to do what Dave would do in certain situations, I fail to compare. But, that’s okay, I know Dave is with me and I know he keeps pushing me in the right direction, guiding me and helping to get me where I need to be in life. He always let me know I had worth in those low times I would have and every time I talked with him I felt that value that he saw in me. He truly had a way of lifting you up even on your worst days.

I know I am so lucky and so blessed to have had him as such a close friend and I’m forever grateful that the good Lord let him be a part of my life, even if it was what seemed like such a short time. I see his picture on my desk every day, I talk to him every day, but I miss him immensely. I know it’s selfish on my part, but I can’t help feeling that way. I feel a huge void in my life without him, I’m still broken hearted, but I know he’s in a place where he’s doing all the things he wanted to do all his life. I know he’s with God. I know he’s with his patron saint Padre Pio.

I feel his presence, like he’s watching over me and I couldn't ask for a better guardian angel then him and my sister, whom I also feel watches over me. I fell the two of them watch over my grandson and my entire family, another blessing I am forever grateful to God for.

Please keep his mom, brothers and the rest of his family in your prayers, I know this has been a hard week on them and I know today is even harder.

God bless you Dave, you are my friend forever. I love you, buddy.

It is hard to believe it's been a year, already.

Miss you, buddy.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts today about Dave, RTS!

Prayers to you, RTS and the entire Lehkamp family. Time lessens the pain but never the love you have for someone you've lost.

Wow, already been a year. Continued thoughts and prayers to all family and friends.

Shoot, should have had a throwback Thursday with some old Birdsfan threads.

It's hard to believe it's been a year.

Ok, I'm starting to smile on this dreary tax filled Friday.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. Most of the time it's because there's some absurdity or irony I want to tell him. I still do. I tell him because no one here on earth gets my sense of humor. He and my Dad were the only ones. Hopefully they're both up there laughing with me.

I would love to think that not only Mike's family met him in Heaven, I would like to think Dave did as well....That would be something Dave would have done...showed him around, talk about football and both of them running around without any health problems or wheel chairs. Wow...they passed so close to each other. I just hope they are up there laughing and talking about which football team is better LOL
