Guy Morris (Baylor) and Dean Hood (Wake Forest) at the Rock today!

Featured Replies

Last Thursday Alan Cutler had Morris on his radio program. Morris said he still loves KY. Vacationed last year at Lake Cumberland and will be at the Derby this weekend. His wife and he still may retire in Kentucky. Barnhart has made some good hires, but he would have been better off to left the football program alone. They would have played in a bowl Lorenzen senior year. Lastly.....it wouldn't suprise me when Petrino does leave Louisville. Mr. Jurich gives Guy a call??!!

That is speculation. Guy was left with a lot of talent, regardless of how it got there (thanks again Mumme and Bassett). I don't think UK had enough horses to get to a bowl game and Guy, while a nice guy and solid football coach, didn't do a great job in recruiting for what open schollys he had. I was a huge fan of Guy and hated to see him go, but I didn't see much hope for the coming years with the restrictions and the lack of top notch recruits coming into the program.

As far as Jurich goes, he is very well liked at UL, and should be. However, I am not sure that he would be giving Guy a call if Petrino did leave UL. In fact, I would not bet on him calling Guy.

:thumb: :thumb: Agreed on Morris, he is class and I still can't understand what Barnhart was thinking on that one. But I guess it is not up to me -just imo a very, very bad move.

I don't know if he would be calling Morris or not and in all respect MT, I think that you are under estimating what morris would have done at U.K. bu that we will never know.

One thing I saw with Morris as Da Coach. The players truly loved there coach. Also I haven't seen a team hit as hard as they did in the last 15 years.

That is true, we are both speculating on what we will never know. I was all for giving him a chance to stay on and rebuild the program. My only concern was his ability to recruit as he wasn't getting the top notch talent we are starting to get now at UK. But we will never know if he could have done that or not. I really liked him and was sad to see him go, but am supporting Brooks as he is the guy in charge right now.

I knew some players on his teams. Safe to say their assessment of Coach Morris changed substantially when he became a head coach. They were not fond of him. Now admittedly the players I know may have been a small percentage of the players on the team, but they did not like him at all as a head coach.

Was that while he was there or after he left. I know a few of his ex-players lost all respect for him after he left. i just wandered if they were mad because he left?

That was only because he went to "the future" Shane Boyd over Lorenzen... J/K

Jared was not one of the players I was referring to.

My understanding he was very well received by most of the team. Just as important, he had an outstanding relationship with many high school head coaches, except maybe, the divas.

Could it be because they were forced into contact during practices vs. Club Mumme practices?

No guess again:laugh:

As for divas, I assume you mean the successful coaches?

Could it be because they were forced into contact during practices vs. Club Mumme practices?

  Yeah, Mumme did not believe in defense or hitting and his teams play showed it. Morris's Cats would hit people.

:thumb: :thumb: I don't like Brooks and will say it and wish we had someone else but we have no choice in the matter bc we support the Cats.
