Harrison County 58 Mason County 55 (10th Region Quarterfinals)

Featured Replies

I mentioned in another thread that Mason County had no region experience on their team and I believe that really showed coming down the stretch. Although they were able to keep it close they could not hit the big shots to win the game. There were numerous late turnovers that they could not overcome. It seemed eerily similar to the 2013 and 2014 district games. Looked like no one wanted to shoot and Henry looked out of sync the whole night. Nice group of seniors that the Royals will miss but they just weren't a "big game" group as the last three years have shown. Congrats to Harrison County, they picked a helluva time to put it all together for a win!

Also as far as shaking hands after the game, I don't think it was avoided on purpose. Harrison County's celebration went across the floor and kept building and while that happened Mason County got tired of waiting, don't blame them, and they went to the locker room. It was a big win, over the favorite, but it only put the 'Breds in the semifinals. Celebrate like that when you win the region. Until then, have a little more class.

I did see the coaches did shake hands after the game.

Thought Coach O Hearn still doing his post game show just minutes afterwards was a very classy move on his part. College and pro coaches get a half hour or so to decompress somewhat before addressing the media

Coach O'Hearn and I came to Mason County as teachers/coaches in 1996. Of course for him it was coming home. He is always first class and definitely an outstanding person and coach.

Last night was tough. I tell my sons after a tough loss, and we have had many....nights like last night are easy to avoid....never compete. No one is immune.....Saban, Calipari, etc. have all been there. And as long as they coach, they will be there again.

I don't think the celebration showed a lack of class. Big upset and the kids were excited. That's what makes High School basketball such a great thing. They beat a great team with a great winning tradition. I was excited for them!!!

Coach O'Hearn is a classy coach and Mason Co. Is a basketball power in the 10th. It's very difficult being the favorite and having the bullseye on your back. Pressure was was on the Royals before the ball was tipped. Coach O'hearn handled the game in a professional manner before and after the game. Just wish handshakes by players could have been arraigned. An attempt was made by Harrison Co,but the Royals got tired of waiting and were very emotional anyways. Great game on both ends!

I also thought the 'the have a little more class' comment was out of line, I mean MaCo was as high as 9th in the state on their home floor, emotions are high, hard to cut that off when the stakes are lose and your out(first round, second round or final) Now college kids and older storming the court during the regular season after beating a team in the top 15, now that's classless and idiotic.

Ok, it just really bothered me that the teams didn't shake hands. I understand that they knocked off a ranked team that had only lost 2 games all season and none within the region. I was rooting for them to win. At the same time, celebrate the win, I don't question that at all. But remember when they said no more handshakes and people lost their minds? It's part of the game and should happen after each contest. Mason County, who had to feel awful after the loss, stood by their bench and waited but then gave up when it didn't happen. I just would have liked to see it happen. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

Agree 110%. It wasn't a very good feeling at all, thankfully the girls team pulled through yesterday to take some of the pain away. But at the end of the day that was the worst game I've seen MaCo play all year long and it occurred at the wrong time. Ryan Johnson was 1/10 from the field, before Saturday night he was going 20+ ppg. Even with the Royals playing and shooting that poorly they still had chances to win the game in the last minute but costly turnovers occurred. Just an all around bad night that's all you can say.

I didn't think anything you said was offensive. I also wish they would have shaken hands - but understand why it didn't happen!!
