I sincerely doubt that the tickets show anything more than Session 1, Session 2 etc.., perhaps with a date and time adfixed.

 

I'm hearing that the core reason for keeping Friday session intact, was to not conflict with girls' teams playing in the Saturday semis, which makes no sense, since they are playing in the same venue and there is no travel involved.

 

Sure it does. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Not sure if the plan was to clear the gym or not, but NCC and Holmes girls and boys playing on the same day in the same venue probably results in lost money somewhere. That is my guess.

Agreed! Not sure why they just didn't move everything back. Wednesday's to Friday, and Friday's to Saturday.

Dixie, Boone, NCC and Holmes were scheduled to play three games in four days, are now playing three games in five days, whereas CovCath, Newport, Cooper and St. Henry who were scheduled to play three games in six days are now playing three games in in four days.

 

I'm surprised that the latter schools aren't screaming bloody murder, that the advantage gained by luck of the draw has now been nullified and the bottom bracket teams have now gained a perceived (improved) advantage because of the rescheduling.

 

Moving the entire tournament back and having the top bracket play on Friday night and the bottom bracket play on Saturday, would have still given them a slight edge and a few more hours rest. This way the bottom bracket teams have been awarded a free 24hours that they didn't have when the pills rolled out of the bottle, and the upper bracket teams have been disadvantaged by the move.

Real simple...Friday night is the 'prime time draw". Look at the brackets and remember tickets were already being sold. What 4 teams will draw the largest crowd? Cov. Cath., Newport, St. Henry and Cooper OR Dixie, Boone Co., Holmes or NewCath? Common sense - the bottom bracket. So instead of the top bracket playing 3 games in 6 days (as orginally schedule), they now play 3 games in 4 days. Remember, both brackets play Monday and Tuesday (that's all that matters IMO).

^ The tourney isn't set up that way, nor should it ever. Under this logic, skip the draw and just place team in slots according to how many fans the tourney think will show up each night.

Only mentioned Ohio because it is right across the river. Regarding the District tournament in KY, why even have it (when both the winner and runner-up go to the regional?) Once the tournament starts, if you lose (you go home). I'm a '65 Newport Catholic grad, and I know it has always been that way. Today, very few states (if any) allow a losing team to advance. It's all about the additional dollars.

And it's a good thing the losing team does advance...Covcath won region and state last year as a district runner up.

 

Holmes won region and advanced to the Elite 8 as a district runner up the year before.

 

I believe Newport also won region in 2010 as a district runner up.

Well aware of the fact that district runner-up's have won the regional, and in some cases, done very well down-state. That is great for the 9th region to celebrate. Not argueing the point, but feel a single regional draw, with all teams seeded, produces the same result - a regional champion. Like I said before, it has been going on for over 50 years, and will not change. Do not care for it at the High School level, while it does happen at the college level where the NCAA tournament field does include many teams that lost in their conference tourneys.

Yep... and I am sure CovCath's 69-32 win in the district was a very entertaining game. It really does not matter if it is district or regional, there are always going to be total first round (and maybe second round) mis-matches. Look at the football playoffs first round games..... same story.

There is the cream of the crop...and the rest. Whether you play (and lose) in the districts, or the regional tourney, it really does not matter. You still loss.

I think Mentsch's point (and I could be 100% wrong) is that if the region goes to seeding, you will get terrible seeds. Who is doing the seeding? Because the 9th region coaches voted Heritage in the top 10 this year. Heritage. Top 10.
