March 4, 201511 yr No excuse for a professional athlete to not be in shape when their season starts. Their season hasn't started yet. Obviously this isn't good news, but it's not devastating, either. The season is still a month away. If he doesn't play for the rest of spring training, I'll be concerned.
March 4, 201511 yr The way people rationalize Votto and make excuses/apoolgies for him, at this point years later, is quacking me up.

March 4, 201511 yr He said he's not hurt. He just isn't in shape. He has had over 8 months off, how can he not be in shape?
March 4, 201511 yr For the 3284023943 time. He said he was focused on rehabbing his injuries and getting them right. Wasn't working on baseball activities. He will be in the lineup opening day. If he was hurt it would be one thing but he's not. People are freaking out about some spring training game that means nothing. None of the pitchers are in shape to pitch a full game yet. OUTRAGE!!!!
March 4, 201511 yr He has had over 8 months off, how can he not be in shape? Spent 8 months rehabbing his knee. Different than taking swings and fielding groundballs to get in baseball shape.

You know, pitching, running, long toss, mound work all to get in shape for the season. You know, participating. He's been off way too long to have that as an excuse any longer. Bottom line. Kotex

He's been off way too long to have that as an excuse any longer. Bottom line. Kotex So is Votto. Do you care if he is playing in his first ST game this week or next week? I'm betting he's in the lineup opening day unless he gets hurt this ST.
March 4, 201511 yr Spent 8 months rehabbing his knee. Different than taking swings and fielding groundballs to get in baseball shape. Adrian Peterson returned from a torn ACL and his ensuing surgery in less than 8 months. Did Kotex get cut on?
March 4, 201511 yr So is Votto. Do you care if he is playing in his first ST game this week or next week? I'm betting he's in the lineup opening day unless he gets hurt this ST. I do. And if I'm paying him that coin, I do. And if I'm his teammate, I do. His absence shows a lack of commitment IMO. Of course they all should be used to that.

The fact alone that he cant participate in said "Spring training game" is the reason there is outrage. All he had to do yesterday was DH for one at bat, ONE FREAKING AT BAT, and no one says a word. But hes 'NOT READY YET" "NOT IN GAME SHAPE" WHY? He either physically cant play the game anymore, or its mental.
March 4, 201511 yr Spent 8 months rehabbing his knee. Different than taking swings and fielding groundballs to get in baseball shape. Shouldnt part of his rehab been doing things he would need to do to get in "baseball shape"?
March 4, 201511 yr He's been reading "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Mr. Carnegie. You may have the book title incorrect:
