What nickname would you give to this Kentucky team?

Featured Replies

I'm just hoping they go Wire to Wire.

That would make them the "Wiremen."

I think the '98 and '12 teams beat this one. But not by too much. This team could drag both of those squads down to street fight level into a low-scoring grinder.

Not a chance Jim. No way.

I could have sworn that the topic of this thread was "What nickname would you give to this Kentucky team."

I probably just read the title wrong.

The 98 team? Really?

Oops. Meant '96.

I'm going to give out an "iffin".

Iffin' Jodie Meeks hadn't gone pro after the 2008-09 season and stayed to play with Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Bledsoe, Miller, etc, I think the 2010 team would have easily won the national title...(should have anyway--the West Virginia loss was one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history)... and would have been ranked as the best UK team in history.

I can buy that.

The Battling Blutarskis.

I think 1996 and 2012 for sure. Also good arguments for 1998, 2003 and 2010.

I have a hard time putting 2010 up there. They lost because they were not a good half court offensive team. Which even with all that talent, if you can't play in the half court you will get knocked out like they did. Its the same reason why the 2011 team was able to go further than them even though the 2011 team had a tougher road to go through. When it came down to it the 2011 team could play in the half court and make shots. Talent wise 2010 is one of the best, however their weakness was a big weakness and why I don't talk about them as one of the best UK teams, or even as one of my top favorites. The 2011 team was more memorable to me than 2010, just like last years UK team was to.

Now depending on how this team finish's up will depend on how I rank them. However your other two 1996 and 2012 teams I agree with being in the top 3.

I made the mistake of responding to wiremans team name and it has seemed to cause an avalanche lol. Maybe a mod can change the thread title as it appears "What are the best teams in Kentucky history" may be more appropriate until the season ends.

The 2010 was a fun team to watch, however one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history? I don't see that, just because in UK fans eyes it was an unbelievable upset, I don't see it as one of the top upsets of all time. I hate to say this, I am not sure if that 2010 team beats Duke in the final four. What Duke could do that year would have given that 2010 team a lot of trouble, and with that 2010 not really having a consistent shooter they very well could have had another off night shooting the ball.
