February 28, 201511 yr Good read. I think most of my friends prefer black to African American because A) they're young and B) (more legitimately) they are not from Africa. Which makes sense to me, most black guys are as American as I am, and I'm not called European American. But I realize the issue in the article. It is so sad that people have negative connotations to the word.
February 28, 201511 yr Very good read btw. I was listening to Russ Parr in the morning the other day and they were talking about a similar topic and one brought up briefly in the story - black sounding names and how it affects employment, etc.
February 28, 201511 yr I prefer to be called Caucasian because I like saying Caucasian. So your a "Cauc" from Asia?
February 28, 201511 yr Why can't we stop using the stupid labels and just be AMERICANS? Or American of African descent, European descent, Asian descent, etc.? I had an employee that worked for me years ago and I asked her one day what she preferred to be called, black or African-American, she told me to just call her by her name.
February 28, 201511 yr I have a very good friend who is black and one day I asked him if he wanted to be called a black man or African American. He said he look at his skin, he was black and not from Africa. So he said I'm black and all this African American stuff is nonsense. He is 60 years old and went through a lot in his life.
March 1, 201511 yr Unless you are from Africa, like my daughters are, you are not African American. Honestly, they are American citizens now. They are just American like Old Dog said.
March 1, 201511 yr I'm getting deja vu here... Being "Black" vs "African American" Interesting Study. Study: White people see "black" Americans as less competent than "African Americans" - Vox
