Biggest Upset in District

Featured Replies

Just curious as to what were some of the biggest upsets in the first round of districts. One that comes to mind to me is in the 07/08 season McCreary Central's Aaron Watts and co., entered the 48th district tournament with a 24-5 record and faced Southwesterns 5-23 team and lost 55-56. One of the biggest sides to this was that it was on McCrearys own court.

This is why I love tournament time because its one and done time. Any team can beat anyone given the right circumstances. Any other big upsets come to mind?

The one that comes to my mind is 1996 8th District Semifinal

Christian Co 57 University Heights 54.

The UHA team was #1 most of the season and is the only Kentucky team to ever win the Beach Ball Classic. UHA finished the 25-3 and were lead by Lamont Barnes and Isiah Victor who went to Temple and Tennessee.

2013-2014 Mason County and Augusta

2015 Clark County and Paris/ Bourbon County and Montgomery County

2014 Augusta Panthers win over Mason County who was ranked 25th in the State last season. That would have to be right up there.

Wow Bourbon County hadnt won a district game all season! Thats why I love this time of year!

Ashland is likely going to be 5-26 when the play in the 16th Region Tournament.

How good was the Fairview team they beat last night?

They were 15-10 heading into last night's game and had beaten Ashland twice (70-46 and 64-61).

Ashland does seem to have improved some as the year went along. Obviously two wins over Rose Hill don't tell us much, but they had a win over Russell who had beat them earlier in the year, and a win over a Fleming County team that won 11 games.

Bracken Co (10-15) over Brossart (23-5) in 2004 at Campbell Co was pretty big

I was getting ready to post this one. Brossart had already beaten Bracken 62-41 earlier in the year, , and was State runner-up to Hazard in the All A.

They have definitely improved. Started the season 1-23 and 4-2 since. That being said, they are still likely to be 5-26 in the region tournament.

2006- Morgan just came off winning the 16th region the past season their record was 22-3 had all their top people retuning was hosting their first year in the 62nd district played West Carter who was 10-15 and lost 49-47.

I saw that UHA team several times that year, and their talent was staggering. And, there is no doubt Christian Co beating them was an upset. But, Christian was no slouch. They entered the post season at 20-7.

Was that the year that Morgan had Whitney Williams that him and 2 others were killed in a car wreck going back to MSU after the girls district game, and the funeral was that day?
