Kidwell Out as Coach at Russell

Featured Replies

Both won as many postseason games this spring, huh?

I'm not here to argue any points on this. I just don't like calling coaches in to surprise them. I consider myself friends with both Coach Dodd and Coach Kidwell.

By the way Spindoc, Coach Dodd would have won the region 3 years in a row if not for key injuries. Sloane went out in the first minute of the regional final against Rowan Co in 2005 with a dislocated right shoulder. Russell won the region in 2006 with probably the weakest team of a three year stretch. In 2007 Jon Vanhoose blew out his knee in the district which allowed Elliott Co to win the region. Russell had already beaten them big the two games they played earlier that season. In 2008, Coach Dodd returned two players that were in the top 13 from 2007. (no starters) They won three games.

He did however start Kyle Skaggs as a 7th and 8th grader on the varsity to develop him and set the table for later.

Hope to see all of you next season if my next back surgery helps.

Best of luck on your surgery! Hope it helps!

Any young Marv Merediths out there? :idunno:

Just a tad off topic but do you think Russell and Raceland would ever consolidate or would Greenup County ever consolidate with Raceland? Or is it possible for all to make just one high school?

Would love to see Scott Humphrey but doubt he would leave his school.

He is happy where he is at GRC.

It's not the young Marv Meredith types that are the problem. The problem is that there aren't any Watkins playing.

I am a little surprised how quickly after the season this took place.

Does Russell have somebody on the radar or will they try to hire from within? As I have stated before, I'm not that knowledge about the happening in Region 16. I just think it happened very quickly and thought maybe something was in the plans.

Doesn't most schools have to wait and see what teaching openings will be available before hiring a coach?

It would be nice if someone would give Jason Strader a shot. Great guy, very competitive and kids love to play for him.

Is he a teacher at Ashland?

Be interesting to see where the new coach fits in with no current teaching positions available.

I don't think you have to be a teacher to coach anymore do you? I mean I know a coach wouldn't want to come for free but I dont think he has to be part of the faculty.

No just not a lot have the job flexibility to Coach on varsity level. Plus it usually not worth for the time you put in.

Exactly my point.

I would be surprised if there is not some type of teaching position to go along with the coaching position. I think it would be hard to find the right person without a teaching position.
