Best chance for District upset and elimination in NKY?

Featured Replies

I will throw the ND vs Holmes game out there as a possibility.

Holmes advantages:

Beat ND easily in regular season

Playing at Home

Played well throughout season

Holmes disadvantages:

Not all that experienced in post season play as a favorite

Has trouble shooting against zones

Have some nagging injuries

ND advantages:

Getting healthy with return of injured players

Played a very tough schedule

Experienced in big games

ND disadvantages:

Not as deep as usually are

Have trouble scoring at times

Have to overcome home court advantage

So.........will Holmes roll or can ND pull off the upset?

I agree and think this is a the toughest district game. Holmes is very good and did beat them fairly well in the season. However, if I remember correctly, ND settled down and made a little run or played them even in the second half. Holmes' "shock and awe" is very intimidating! But once you've experienced it and learn how to settle down, it may make this a little closer contest. With Hellman back too, ND is healthy at the right time and to your point...tested by their schedule. I also think there has been a blueprint out there for awhile now on how to play Holmes. The games they have played in the second half of the season have been much closer and I feel that's due to exposing them to some of their weaknesses. I think ND will try to do that.

Now to Holmes' credit...all they do is win. I've been very impressed with them as they have been challenged in the back half of the season. Early in the season, that was my question about them. How do they react when someone punches back? Well they have passed that test in my book time after time. They dig in and figure out how to win! That's what good teams do! And It seems like they've had different kids step up to make that happen...which is another good sign for them. I wouldn't ever count this Holmes team out until the last tick rolls off the clock.

I do think ND has the ability to pull the upset if they don't panic and use the template to slow them down. I still think Holmes wins, but I think it will be a battle and much closer than the last meeting. Definitely the most interesting match up in the districts for me.

I think Cooper vs Boone could be a good one and another possible upset. Boone won twice in the regular season but the margins were not that large.

Hopefully Cooper can come back from 2 almost 40 point losses in a row and make a strong showing at districts! Good luck Lady Jags!

Grant County over Simon Kenton. Could happen. SK denied Sunday practice and compelled to play on Monday.

Good Lord get off the no practice trip. Every team has had limited practice. It's districts. You should have had plenty of practice by now.

No, absolutely not. No practice, voluntarily or otherwise, no open gym, no shoot arounds, NO NOTHING, but 2 scheduled games since 2/12

Here we go again, Holmes is 27-1 and people are still talking about this "weakness" Holmes has and teams have exposed it. Someone please tell me what this weakness is and what teams exposed it

If team know about this so called weakness and still didn't beat them then how much of a weakness could it possibly be?

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.

Mayor: What do you mean, “biblical”?

Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath-of-God type stuff.

Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.

Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling.

Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes…

Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave.

Holy Cross must know the secret. :sssh::sssh::sssh:

First, it's just my opinion! However, then what do you attribute the closer games to then? Teams that IMO, wouldn't have played with holmes early in the season are now able to make the games close. And regardless of the outcome of the HHS game, you don't think they didn't have it figured out? It might have been you that's said it was on the edge of a blowout in favor of HHS. If not for a heroic effort and the fact that hhs had 3 starters on the bench at the time of the comeback, I could say that HHS was another team. But for now, you're right, they beat HHS. But you were there.

And am I wrong with my recollection of ND playing them even in the second half and in fact beating them once they settled in? You can say Holmes cruised after being up early and that may be...but again, that makes this game and interesting first round match up.

Lastly, I didn't say it was a template to beat Holmes. I have said now and in the past that it's a template to slow them down. And if you slow them down, there is a chance to beat them and that's what's been happening in the second half of the season. Am I wrong?

I have given the kids all kinds of credit for not letting the upsets happen. And I said they will most likely win this one. But if you think there hasn't beem some weaknesses exposed and a template created for a formula to beat them, then that's kind of a naive approach. By this time of the year, there are no secrets. You just have to have the tools to be able to execute the upset.

And for the record, I think the HHS/NCC game will be much closer for a lot if the same reasons. But the difference there is the loser isn't eliminated from the region. And it really makes no difference who wins or loses if HC and Holmes come out of the other district.

Holmes has had maybe 7 or 8 close games all season and with one exception THEY WON THE GAME!!!And my question still haven't been answered. What is Holmes weakness?
