Holmes has had maybe 7 or 8 close games all season and with one exception THEY WON THE GAME!!!And my question still haven't been answered. What is Holmes weakness?

 

Half court offense and defense. IMO. I've already said that a long time ago. I know, you're going to say they won all those games that teams forced them to slow down. And you're right, they did and I give them credit. But just because they were able to pull out wins and even score some in the half court doesn't mean it's not a weakness. I've witnessed it a couple time and many Holmes fans mentioned it over the course of the season as well. Again, it's not easy to slow them down, but the teams that have the tools can expose that weakness. It's not a bad thing! Every team has weaknesses. If Holmes didn't have any weaknesses, there wouldn't be any close games, right? And didn't 5 of those 8 games come in the last month of the season?

 

Again, Holmes may win the region, but it doesn't mean they don't have weaknesses.

Having a bad shooting night is not a weakness. Still get the looks and shots they want in the half court, some games they fall some they don't. But if that's a weakness then that's one I would rether have over others.

I seen many teams over the years, for what ever reason, decline to play competition outside of their comfort zone. I look at Holmes schedule, I see weakness written all over it. Notre Dame for an example, has played many games out of the N Ky area. Simon Kenton and Ryle are 2 other teams that I seen the past 4 years venture down state and play. Make all the excuses you want, but if I'm a coach who I think has a top team, Im on the phone in June trying to get into some worthy tournaments.

Not sure how you think I'm saying I have them figured out. I'm saying I know what I would do to them and I think other teams are on the same track and it happens to be almost all the close games have been played out the same way by the opposing team. Again, they may win the region and I will root my tail off for them...but in my opinion, they have a weakness in the half court. Their strength is pressure and rebounding. Don't get upset that your first round district game is so intriguing. You should rejoice. It was just a few years ago people wouldn't have even mentioned Holmes coming out of that district. All I'm saying is if ND doesn't panic, they have the tools to make it interesting. I said the same thing last time and they panicked and wore down Martin. ND's staff job is to make sure that doesn't happen again. If he has a solution that works for that, then he has a chance for the upset. If not, it will be the same result.

 

And to say a handful of games...first, there would have only been a handful worth watching. The rest were blowouts. And I stay pretty connected with the games, whether I see them or not. And again, its just my opinion. You don't have to agree. But just because you say its not a weakness doesn't mean it's not.

Well to your point, I didn't see all the games. But in the HC and HHS game, they were definitely several "Deer in the headlights" moments once those teams forced them into the halfcourt. In fact, they were down 14 in the third to HHS and it wasn't the half court offense that brought them back. It was their strength. Pressure and rebounding. They were very lucky that Parker heated up from 3 and that Gulley battled so hard or it wouldn't have mattered how much effort they put in those last 3 minutes. Outside of about 3-4 huge threes (I think parker had 3 and Harris 1), all their points were in the paint and mostly on offensive rebounds...With our 6'2" center not playing in the game.

 

I'm not trying make this into a Holmes-HHS battle or anything like that. I'm just showing you that the half court on both sides (other than your blowout games) has been their weakness. You didn't win (or come close to winning) those two games that had anything to do with efficient half court offense.

RCC9, he is wanting you to say they are a flawless machine with one loss. One loss, One loss, get it? I pity the teams who play them in the Sweet16, lets cancel it I say.

She only had 3 three pointers and they all came within about 6-7 minutes of each other in the second half (I think). She shot some in the first half with no luck. So they packed it in. She got loose in the second half and made some big ones, but it was still only 3. To my point, it wasn't the half court offense that kept them in the game or made the comeback. That was 3 possessions in the entire game.

 

And if you know HHS' defense, the more you miss, the more they pack it in and dare you to shoot it. She made some in the third and fourth and then they went back out to guard her. Even with her threes, they just kept them close. It was still a 9 point game when graves fouled out with 5 minutes to go, putting 3 starters on the bench...at exactly the same time Holmes made the comeback. And again, it wasn't the half court offense that won the game. It was the half court offense that found them down 14 in the third qtr. Again, not trying to get in a HHS-Holmes battle at all. I'm just trying to show you why I (and many others) feel its a weakness of Holmes. Maybe we are wrong. But I know where I would take my chances if I have a team that and handle the pressure.
