February 13, 201511 yr I guess I just don't understand the move. They basically gave him what he was asking for arbitration. I wouldn't have settled for anything less than a multi-year deal if I were the Reds. If it's going to be just the one year, why not just let it play out? Hedging their bet is my guess. Still if they are out of it and he is what he has been, you know someone will part with pieces the Reds need. Sure it could have happened in this deal, but it may be next yrs trade deadline they move him. And he does put butts in seats.

He hasn't been perfect that's for sure. The Reds have inked some bad deals and a lot of that appears to be because of the owner.

The bolded is a little different than saying he sells tickets, though. There's just nothing to back that assertion (and I know you weren't the one who made it) up. When people buy tickets, they may hope to see him pitch, but there's no guarantee. I see no way that ticket sales would be impacted if Chapman wasn't on the team.
February 13, 201511 yr Major League average of Saves Opportunities converted to Saves is around 69%, Chapman was #2 in Baseball last year at 95%. The Reds had 19 blown Saves last season, Chapman had only 2 of them. Reds had 25 Save Opportunities (not counting Chapman's) and only converted 8 of them to Saves. So it does look like losing Chapman would probably cost the Reds some wins...do wins correlate to ticket sales? Hmmm
