It seems to me that having the wall so close to the baseline compounded the issue as well. I've never liked gyms configured with such little space on the ends.

Still silliness to ban both teams for the rest of the season. If I am at a game and my kid is on the court and something like this happens I'm going to grab my kid and any other kids from the team I can and get them to the locker room.

 

Looks like blue team, the team that committed the foul, left the bench first and than the white team followed. I did not see a parent do anything other than try to break up the situation. Very happy to see that.

If my kid would have engaged in that fight no matter which side, I would bust his rear. Instead of trying to throw punches, it looks like a better teammate would be checking to make sure his buddy didn't have a broken neck. He looked like he went head first into that wall and could have gotten a bad concussion or even a spinal injury. I'm not condoning the foul...it was enough to get the kid thrown from the game and probably even suspended for a few more, but seems like hotheads never make things any better.

Comes to a point where we have to realize we are all human, if you can admit to yourself that you'd have stood there as that young man's teammate and done nothing, then you are indeed in a class all by yourself. I'd like to say "good for you", but then again, I almost feel sorry for you.

That would support the fact this happened so early in the varsity game.

Both teams lose their season over one kid's stupid play? If I was the team that got fouled, I would appeal. One team was clearly the instigator, and you could make a case that the team that got fouled was defending their teammate who was down. Not fair to penalize a team for what fans do, unless there's a warning first.

 

I agree. When I saw both teams' seasons were canceled, I frankly was expecting worse from the video. The foul was horrific and that kid should be banned for the rest of this season at the least (not sure if he is a senior or not). I think you review the tape and suspend the kids that were actually fighting (and coaches) for some period of time (maybe the rest of the season). Ending the season for both teams seems like too much to me though. If one of my teammates was fouled like that when I was playing, it would be very hard to not retaliate. That was one of the most cowardly, dangerous fouls I have ever seen.

IHSAA gave this same penalty to a team from Muncie a few years ago.

Jean Shepherd spoke at an event I was at one time. He was a total Hollywood "i'm too good for you" jerk. I'm surprised his head fit through the door. I love the movie but every time I watch it now I can only think about what a jerk he was.

I bet every official who saw this video immediately noticed two things: the correct get of the intentional foul call AND then the one official just coolly standing at the top of the key CORRECTLY being out of the scrum.

I did exactly this back in the day during a softball tourey. Bench clearing brawl in the infield, and I promptly planted my rear where I stood in the outfield.......It was one hell of a fight. :eek: I'm a lover, not a fighter. :lol2:

 

Plus, just because a couple guys are "running their mouth", it's not worth it to me to join in the scrum of "stupidity"......don't care if their my teammates or not.

I am not saying you are wrong LB...you are correct. When I played in adult leagues (baseball and basketball), our group of guys always had a rule to not run their mouths and get in fights because the rest of us were NOT going to get involved. We were too old to be getting in fights and we all had jobs to go to in the morning. However, I can understand this because (1) we are talking kids and (2) this was not guys running their mouths...this was one of the worst cheap shots I have ever seen that could have really done great harm to the kid. I understand why this one happened. Total blame on the kid that started it. The adults actually did a good job from what I saw.
