Battle of the Campbell County "fish-eaters" goes to the Breds.

Numbers shortly.

In a packed SyDome in Alexandria it was close for the 1st quarter (14-11 Newcath) as the Breds looked a tad rusty in the opening stanza, to say the least, as ill-advised passes were the main culprit  However, the ship was righted and from there on it was (as Accept would sing) Balls to the Wall. With the score tied at 16-16 early in the 2nd quarter, NewCath goes on an 18-1 run to blow things open.

Weyer and McDonald were blocking shots, as well as, getting in on the assist act. G. Moeves & Pangallo were deadly with the "pop n drop" from 10-15 feet, as well as, drives to the rack. Ben Weyer put on a clinic tonight going for a team high 24 pts.

Breds scored 2 pts the final 3 plus minutes.

The 'Stangs looked really good in the 1st quarter, but wheels soon fell off the bus.

Love to know how many blocked shots and/or altered shots the Breds had.

I wasn't about to take off my shoes to count, but it was easily more than 10.

Was his ankle bothering him and he didn't play much? I would have thought he would have killed it being BBHS has no real size.. Inquiring minds wants to know.. :)

He played. Didn't notice ankle or anything bothering him. Had a few dunks in warm-ups. They got it inside two him a couple of times and the ball slipped through his grasp. Believe it or not, he was even blocked on two occasions. Granted he had not left his feet when he was blocked. lol

Guess they really didn't need him much more on this night. Pangallo has a sweet shot and it was falling the few times he shot it. Mustangs also had trouble guarding Moeves.

The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbred boys basketball team had little trouble winning another battle against the in-county rival Bishop Brossart Mustangs.

The Thoroughbreds (22-3 overall) ventured to Alexandria and won 66-40 for their 11th straight victory. NewCath has beaten Bishop Brossart four straight times dating back to a 65-61 loss on Dec. 28, 2011 in the Lloyd Memorial Tournament.

The Thoroughbreds received another huge game from junior 6-foot-6-inch Ben Weyer with 21 points. Senior guards Grant Moeves and Zack Pangallo followed with 14 and 13 respectively.

NewCath plays host to Beechwood (9-11) on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

It just wasn't Drew's night in the point category, however he did have 13 rebs & quite a few blocks.......all in all not a bad night.

Should have mentioned, Sr. Seth Freppon got the starting nod last night and played an outstanding game on "D", young man might be 6'0", but plays and rebs like a he's 6'7". A true joy to watch play. :ylsuper:

Sorry to Brennan Hall for missing his 2 pts. & the scoring errors in my re-cap.......trying to do two things at once is not my forte....lately. :banghead:

NCC far superior on this night. We were able to be patient and hang in there for about 10 minutes, and then it was over.

The Breds loomed over us, blocking a myriad of shots. They play together well and had a great shooting night.

I was happy for our JVs who play extremely hard and were able to overcome some adversity and win. They along with Jackson Crawford and Jacob Zai should represent us well in 2015-16.

Could be a hangover from the All-A....

See Weyer filled it up again last night. Seems to be the piece of the puzzle that no one in NKY has an answer for except maybe the Blue Colonels. Heard that Coastal Carolina was in town to see him play earlier this week. Might he be the most highly recruited player at NCC in quite some time?

They played a great game, and their back door cuts (over and over) doomed the Breds.

quite possible.
