I worked there for a while in that time frame as well. That place was a complete joke the way it was ran, can't say I am suprised it went under. The stuff like, diodes, capcitors, etc that they have huge margins on just don't sell anymore. Was a guy named Randy the District Manager when you worked there?

 

Right at the end, yeah. I was managing the Erlanger store when I finally quit...

Last night someone mentioned the one in Alexandria was already closed. Didn't realize it was the whole chain. Would have liked to stop in for a bargin!

I hate to see a business go down like this, but they just never adapted. I hadn't been to one in years until this summer. I was in a fix for a pre-amp and thought that if any place would have kept something like that in stock it would be Radio Shack. I was wrong. As for the rest of the store, they didn't have anything in there you couldn't get a better selection of at Best Buy (and that's not a compliment to Best Buy).

First Computer that I was ever on was a TRS-80 when I school got their first class room computers. The class was Titled Computer Math but it was basically a year of learning how to write programs in BASIC.

 

I Loved that class...we used cassette tapes and cassette players to back up our programs.

 

I hate that RS is closing, it's just nice to know all of those obscure pieces and parts for electronics were just a few miles away.

Was at a Radio Shack last year to get the battery in my car key fob replaced. I'm embarrassed to discover that my five dollar contribution to the balance sheet didn't save the company.
