I agree, IF there was something the player had done or said earlier that had led up to the T, then I could understand. But I don't agree with your analogy of a wave off being equal to profanity. Most the refs I know don't call a T on a wave off. Most look at it as just frustration on the part of the kid. They may give them a warning of not 'showing them up' again, but that's about it. Heck, coaches wave off refs calls all the time with no negative results. It just means they disagree with the call.

 

Coaches are permitted to do wave off officials. They are the coach. Players are different. Just the way it is.

Murray has had some pretty good teams come in here and leave early. Congrats on making finals. The last couple teams Gallatin have brought in here have faired very well and they have been alot of fun to watch. Congrats to Gallatin on another nice run.

I deleted my post after thinking about. But most refs will give a warning before calling a T, which probably was what occured in this situation. Most won't call a T at the first wave off, but it beter not happen again. They understand players get frustrated sometimes during games, as much with themselves as with calls they don't agree with.

I had noticed him the day before just prancing around the arena like a show pony. Then I saw his theatrics making calls. Waldrop's technical was one of the weakest I've ever seen. That ref definitely wants the attention on him

According to the same article you referenced earlier, the 5th foul did spark the comeback according to the team. Regardless, the main question I posed is "why is the ref called the Sandman?". Just looking for an answer to that

I will admit it probably did fire the team up, but Murray's depth and Coach Turner's decision to go to a chaser on Dossett were the deciding factors. The official's last name is Sandlin, thus the nickname.

Brian Sandlin (ergo the Sandman) is one of the finest officials in the state.

 

We'd be happy to have him strurt around our gym "like a show pony" for every game that we ever play.
