January 30, 201511 yr I'm going into a Winter Weather Alert mode. The change I was expecting this morning is, at this moment, to take place. The afternoon runs show a shifting to the south of the heavy snow I was talking about this morning. First, there is now a chance of freezing rain or ice for the Cincinnati area. Also for extreme NKY. The area also includes Florence. If this occurs it might cut down on some of the snowfall totals in the area. Accumulations of .01-.01 inch of freezing rain/ice may be expected. Now for the snow. Cincinnati/NKY just to the south of Independence 6-8" South of this area down to a east/west line just north of Cynthiana to Flemingsburg to Ironton 4-6" North of a east/west line just south of Mt. Washington to Lexington going between north of Winchester and south of Mt. Sterling to the the boarder with WVA. 2-4" 1-2" north of a line from Elizabethtown to Richmond to Stanton to West Liberty to Louisa. There seems like there is going to be a short cut off for the accumulating snow and south of the 1-2" snow line mainly just rain. Also I wouldn't be surprise that a Winter Storm Watch is issued for the Cincinnati/NKY area sometime tomorrow. I'll update again in the morning. .
January 30, 201511 yr Great. I'm gonna have a ton of food for a Super Bowl party and everyone's gonna be stuck at home. Oh well, more for me!
January 30, 201511 yr As always any amount of significant snow misses Somerset. If you hate snow and want to still live in Kentucky just move to Somerset. Every storm seems to go north, south, east or west of Somerset when it comes to snow. I'm not really complaining but jeez at this point I wonder if we are living under a dome :lol2:
January 30, 201511 yr Author Ooops! forgot the maps. Chance of Freezing Rain/Ice 50-60% in the Cincinnati area. Chance of more than 1" snow map
January 30, 201511 yr Author Wait...what day is this supposed to happen? Sunday evening overnight into Monday.
January 30, 201511 yr Author Another thing I forgot to mention is these totals are subject to change as we get closer to the event.
January 30, 201511 yr Local news in NKY is saying we may get 1-2", if anything. They think we'll just get rain.
January 31, 201511 yr Local news in NKY is saying we may get 1-2"' date=' if anything. They think we'll just get rain.[/quote'] So is the local news in the Ashland area. I trust nWo more than any of them though.
January 31, 201511 yr Local news in NKY is saying we may get 1-2", if anything. They think we'll just get rain. Lets hope that is the case.
January 31, 201511 yr Author Saturday morning update: This morning run has indeed shown a northerly shift in the track of the low pressure system. The models are showing the that the low pressure system will track directly over Kentucky. If this holds true most of the snow will now stay across the Ohio River. Kentucky is now projected to see mostly rain. This could change as we are still over 24 hours away from the event. As I also stated yesterday a winter storm watch has been issued for parts of Ohio just north of Cincinnati. As of now most of the snow in Kentucky will be from around Florence northward. I'm going with 1-3 inches of snow. The probability of snow is now 50-60% in this area. Let me reiterate there is still some uncertainty with this storm. The Weather Prediction Center is saying that with there being such a shift in each model run the forecast could change again drastically in either direction. Probability of snow low track I'll be back later today with an update.
January 31, 201511 yr This is really looking more and more like rain for Bracken/Mason, that damn Ohio River takes all the good stuff north. If it don't come directly out of the south we don't get anything. Oh well, bring on summer-like weather and way above normal temps since winter has petered out for this year.
