SK dominated from the start. One of those games that didn't deliver expectations.

Nice to see the Lady Neers get their feet back. Walton played hard the entire game despite getting close to running clock territory.

Was a nice one to watch. I would like to see box score for SK.

The pressure SK applied to Walton just killed any chance for Walton to win. SK has good guards especially Neace and Bosse is a load to deal with. Out of three refs, one was pretty good but the other two guys were just flat out terrible. You just can't go to a Boys' or Girls' game and see good officiating anymore. Very sad

I may have to watch that one remotely! There may be a bounty out for my head. Although, I did make it to two SK football games this year and went undetected. Even though I had the HHS gear on head to toe!

They mixed it up a bit, most of the time they played zone to try to make the pioneers shoot from the outside, a lot of the points were made on easy layups and fast breaks, SK penetrated the zone fairly well too.

This is incorrect. Walton rarely plays zone, but like many teams, they will play it in specific situations. What zone they played was in the second half. SK did their damage in the first half mostly against man to man.

 

To answer Sportsfans15 question, Neace scored most of her points in the first half against a man to man defense that for some reason would not "help" or rotate over from other perimeter defenders. The interior defenders guarding Meier in the paint did not help defensively against the penetration in order to prevent the easy dump and bucket for Meier on the block. Without help from perimeter defenders, it became an isolation situation with Neace beating her defender, getting into the paint to score, and no perimeter defender sliding down to close the "gate", take a charge, or force a "kick out". And it happened over and over in the second quarter.

 

This, coupled with the fact that Walton missed a lot of shots in the first half...and those rebounds were giving SK way too many fast break opportunities. By the second quarter, Walton's transition defense got very undisciplined (lazy), and the bleeding turned into a gusher.

 

A couple of other things...Walton did do a great job on Meier. Denying the front entry pass and doubling from the weak side when the entry pass went over top. Walton held Meier to 4.

 

Unfortunately, about the only thing going offensively for Walton in the first half was Hailey Ison. She had 17 in the first half and finished with 24. The rest of the team suffered a miserable shooting day. Maybe 10% or so. Very uncharacteristic of the Bearcats. Hopefully they can put it behind them.

 

Congrats to the Pioneers on the big win. It appears there time off served them well. They played with a ton of energy.

A meaningless district game? If Walton would have won, SK still would have been in the number 1 spot? Wouldn't that mean they each have 1 loss in the district, to each other?
