A meaningless district game? If Walton would have won, SK still would have been in the number 1 spot? Wouldn't that mean they each have 1 loss in the district, to each other?

 

This year, the seeding in the 32nd district was determined from the results of each teams FIRST game. This made the second game (if they played one still) between each team meaningless for seeding purposes. From what I understand, this was voted on by the district coaches.

 

This is the seeding for the district tournament as determined by the first game between each team.

 

1. SK 3-0

2. Walton 2-1

3. Williamstown 1-2

4. Grant 0-3

I would put it this way. Coach Clinkenbeard has a great staff. He has been known to not show teams everything. If WV does not beat Simon in the Districts it will at least be a very close game. Don't be surprised if this loss was not the old rope a dope.

Guess that's what happened two years ago when they lost to Grant Co in the districts.

Rope a dope??? Really not sure SK is a team to play that with. Not this year anyway. They apparently, ARE on a mission. A mission to prove that though they are young, they are worthy and with each win they gain confidence in what they can do. Personally, I might have gonna a different way....JMHO.

I know their is a lot of banter of how good this team is and how good that team is. I can tell you one thing that I have observed, SK is very very young with two Sr.'s that are showing tremendous leadership for all the youngsters. Out of their top 8 rotation they have 4 frosh, 2 soph and 2 Sr. This is on a team that has only lost one game.

 

They started the season as you would expect, trying to find their roles within the team. They showed tremendous improvement but stepped back a little at about the mid-way point. I think they are now starting to find their stride again. This team is not flashy, doesn't overwhelm you with a lot of spectacular plays but if you play them you better show up because they will play you hard for 32 minutes. I would call them more of a blue collar team.

 

WV and Grant played them early in the year and they were good games. When SK went to their Christmas tournaments they seemed to find themselves. I think this was in reality what happened the second time around with Grant and WV. They found and entirely different SK team than they faced the first time around. Our line-up rotation changed, and solidified. One of our freshman may not have even dressed varsity the first time the teams played. The girls just seemed to better understand their roles.

 

This team is very good. Are they the best in the state? No. But if any team shows up thinking they are going to overwhelm SK they may be in for a little surprise. It will be fun to watch this group grow and hopefully the Sr's can keep leading the way. Hopefully, the youngsters can keep ego's in check and keep focused on team vs. me. If these things fall into place, I don't see how SK is not the favorite to win the 8th Region and not considered a favorite to win the NKAC or to be right in the middle of it in the end.

No juniors in the top 8 rotation ? Seems odd to me,thought they had a good program year in and year out.

I stand corrected. I believe there are 4 juniors on the varsity team?? They may be in that top 8 or 9 rotation from time to time given the opponent or teams needs at that point in time. They recently started dressing one out for varsity in the past few weeks as she is coming back from a knee injury last season and can help the team quiet a bit. They are all good ball players but it may be more of a testament to the younger girls.

I know Mark and know 100% it was not the "rope a dope" play. SK was just the much better team that day.

Agreed. I think the biggest issue for the Bearcats in this game was overall energy and effort, NOT holding back a play book or passing over preperation. SK not only was the better team, but also out hustled. End of story.
