Coach Jeff Griffith is out at Boone

Would Eric Turner consider going back to Boone?

Trampled, I think you nailed the candidate with Turner. He has Lloyd going in the right direction, and I agree with Badtimes on being the right hire 2 years ago.

At that time, I believe Boone was looking for a clean break from Hauck/Thompson lineage. Be careful what you wish for sometimes.

If I remember correctly, this senior class was better than all the other county schools entering high school.

In 6A football it isn't one class folks, you better have 1 if not 2 good classes behind them! This is big boy football where you better have a dang good Soph class to be really good. In A AA AAA you might

be able to get by with a real good senior class with nothing behind them but in 6A you better have classes stacked on top of each other or your in trouble. I saw Boones Fresh play this year, Boone Co. is in for some long painful years.

You are right concerning the talent pool, but here's how I see it. Boone's Sophomore class this year (Juniors next year) was/is its best class. Many of them saw a lot of playing time and some started. Next year's freshman should be an improvement over this year's frosh team, though still not enough horses in the skill positions. As one who has hung around the BCPWFL for several years it is very frustrating to see so many of the players heading to Cooper and Ryle. I think two years from now Boone's team will be better than it has been in many years, though I don't know how they will stack up against the other district schools.

I was all for giving Grif time to get things set the way he wanted it, but so much for that. He's off to greener pastures, I guess.

Boone County is not a good job. Essentially, it is an inner city school. Districting has made them irrelevant in football.

You're right. Boone County High school has essentially become Florence High School.

He is off to a 1 high school district!! And that is key, the Super cares about sports and wants to see them do well. I would say the super at Boone Co. didn't know who Boone was playing on Friday nights.

Interesting rumor I heard that is a head coach in Oldham County with ties to the Northern KY and Cincy area might be looking at this job to move closer to their family.

I wouldn't hire anyone like that for the Boone job.

This isn't the first time I have read a comment about Boone County being an "inner city" school. Boone has competitive teams in basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, and others sports so why is being a so called "inner city" school keeping them from being competitive in football?

Because most of the areas Boone gets students from are either run down houses, mega apartment complexes (most of which are dated and nasty), and extended stay motels.

To answer your question more specifically it takes a lot more good players to win in football vs. a sport like basketball. Two good players coupled with a bunch of average high school players is plenty in hoops. Football takes a village.
