That is a much better schedule for them. The last two years was ridiculous as far as scheduling goes and they were very young. This year they should be much better

Not sure I see the point you are trying to make. Did you not think that SK, Campbell, Scott, Conner, Beechwood, and Holmes is tough enough out of district?

I am not trying to make a point. You said the schedule was too tough. I looked it up and found their schedule was the 7th toughest in 2A and posted the info. I agree with you that the schedule was too tough for last year's team.

I watched HC in their playoff game against Walton-Verona last year at WV. Big running back could rumble. Very hard to bring down. The people I sat with said he was a sophomore at the time. I am assuming this is the Barnes that was mentioned earlier. Unfortunately for HC, he was not at 100% and had to come out of the game.

 

The HC defense was almost non-existent. That assessment may be too harsh but WV scored at will in the first half and continued to post points in the second. Seemed like in the first half, within three or four plays the WV offense would find the end zone. The only thing that kept the score from going really high was that HC moved the ball and held it for awhile before getting stopped and turning it back over.

 

So, my keys for improvement for HC are keep the big RB healthy and feed the beast. Improve on defense.

I believe Bishop Foys has actually done away with the "feeder school" system in the Diocese of Covington. My understanding is that any child of a member of any diocesan parish is considered "in district" for all diocesan high schools. So although it would reason that the kids from Holy Cross Grade School would go on to attend the high school, it is no longer pre-determined or influenced by a feeder system.

 

District feeders are still very much associated with their respective high schools.

 

Unfortunately, there are very little teeth in the district parameters and an "open enrollment" situation has evolved, on its own, among the district high schools.

 

It seems that this "open enrollment" premise is preached by those schools who are trying to "attract" other's out-of-district junior high students. Those of us whose junior high feeder kids are under siege from other district high schools (coaches/boosters) still cling to the established district feeder setup and wishfully hope there would be honor among each of the diocesan district high schools and honor other schools district feeders.

 

In a perfect world we would all cultivate and attract the junior high students from our respective districts, making for a good business plan..................in a perfect world.

Barnes plays H-Back which is the weak side slot in HC base offense. From what I understand he will line up all over the field like where's Waldo.

I've not heard any particulars, but I've heard nothing but good things about Barnes. Everyone seems to think he's the real deal.

In a perfect world, students would be free to go to the school they thought was the best fit for them. In a perfect world, diocesan high schools wouldn't act like they own the "rights" to students just because they attend a particular grade school. In a perfect world, high schools would try to become a better option to attract students rather than crying foul when they go elsewhere.......in a perfect world.
