Can anyone tell me what the low down on this vacancy is right now? I know the job has been posted on the KHSAA webste but it seems they haven't had that much success. What kind of job is it as far as athletes and facilities, feeder system and athletes go????

Good athletes. Good facilities. Good feeder system in place. Good luck getting them to play basketball as it currently stands. They would be at least 2-3 years away from being solid with the right Coach, but the advantage of a soft District means Regional births aren't too far off. Who ever takes it (IMO) would be best off with Coaches for 7th, 8th and 9th grade hand picked and ready to go...

How about our guy who used to get bashed when he was the asst at Highlands? Kevin something? Isn't he a Lloyd guy?

Kevin Bundy. He is a Lloyd guy, and I'm sure he's interested. JV HC Ashley Lutz will have his name in the hat as well IMO. I'm also hearing of at least one NKY HC interested also...

Not to step on toes, but I don't think Mr. Lutz is ready to become a Varsity Head Coach yet. Good guy, just my opinion.

Could be a great job for someone who could control his program and kids. There are some athletic kids at Lloyd, but getting them to come out will be the task.

I agree on both. Just listing what names I expect to be in the hat...

I used to ride the bus with the parent of a middle school basketball player. She said that her son was not a star athlete, but that he did not get to play but maybe 2 minutes every couple of games. There was a rotation of about six kids that played all the time and the others would only get in when the score was out of hand. Not a good way to build a feeder program. You never know if those bench warmers might have developed into something or put on a growth spurt later on.

In my opinion, the goal of middle school ball is not to win necessarily, but to allow every child to get better. Sometimes you have to lose so that all of the hard working athletes can get a chance to participate.

I agree that Lloyd has plenty of talent and the right coach can be successful.

I agree that this job is daunting task, but I have to disagree and say that Mr. Lutz is the right man for this job. He has a wealth of knowledge, he has been the JV coach for 3 years and from what I have seen the kids respect him. He has something over the last 3 coaches at Lloyd (Gillis, Shea, Brauch) he is a Lloyd guy! I think that carries a lot of weight. He not only wants to be successful as a coach, but he wants to succeed as an alumni. Similar to a Schlarman at Highlands, and even Brannen at NCC. If given the opportunity, I believe he will be the coach for a long time. Not someone who is there for a few years and is ready to move on. Lloyd hasn't had that stability since Bill Code. The feeder system is starting to get some young coaches involved who have a basketball background, not just someone to fill a spot. Lloyd could lose someone very loyal and very good if they aren't careful.

Brian Shea played at St. Henry. This would be a mighty difficult job for a rookie (young) head coach. Certainly plenty of talent there as stated a couple of times above, but the attitude and discipline have been lacking for some time. Brauch attempted to bring some of this to the program and the house of cards fell in on him this year.

From what I hear from many Lloyd people, the program needs help. The help has to start at the middle school level. I know nothing of the coaches there now, but the numerous people tell me that Lloyd needs better fundamental and disciplinary coaches inthe 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. The kids arrive at Lloyd and already think they know everything. They aren't willing to learn. Too many attitudes and personalities are trying to take over the program by themselves.

With this said, who would step up and be willing to rebuild not just a high school program, but a middle school one also? That is a duanting task. So in other words its going to take more than one person, its going to take an army of people to build Lloyd to where it needs to be.

The talent is there, and always has been, its the program that needs help.

Didn't Shea attend Lloyd?

The past Lloyd coach was Kevin Shae. His brother is Brian. Both attended St. Henry. Kevin was the JV coach at St. Henry until 99' when he left to take the Lloyd job. Brian does not coach.
