Kentucky's Bahamas trip came at hefty cost

This is why Coach Cal is worth it. I still don't believe they go 40-0, but if they do, how can you not say it was all worth it?

Wonder if UK got any additional $ via TV revenue as it was on the SEC Network

Nothing wrong with that. Go Big Blue

I believe all of the schools split the network money, it works out to the tune of 14-16 million per school I believe.

This was a trip they can only make once every four years, it makes sense to go all out and spend some money to bring in good competition and treat the kids like kings.

North Carolina was there I believe the same time UK was. I believe there were four teams down there and I am pretty sure I saw some UNC fans there. UK fan out numbered the other teams 50 - 1 but I think I remember seeing some UNC fans.

It was a fun trip to stupid expensive. If a family member had not let me crash on the floor, I would not have gone. Flight was reasonable. Hotels and food were simply not worth it in my opinion.

There is some discussion that it may change to once every two years. We shall see.

I wonder why teams have to play outside of the US? If they could have paid to have those teams flown into Lexington, they could fill up Rupp for these games.

Ya but that's no fun.

UNC was there, however played much lesser teams. They did get off much cheaper though lol.

With the tradition UNC has, I would have thought they would have had more fans. I don't think they marketed it to the degree UK did but still. If fan ticket sales and sponsorship can offset your expenses, why not do it?

I agree, with teams only able to currently participate once every four years, it makes sense to go all out and let the kids enjoy it more. I hope your right and it becomes a two year option though.

I think UNC played a Pick-up Team from the Island in a couple of games, probably didn't want fans to see that :)

Yeah, I believe their first game was delayed because whomever they played had a breakdown with their "team truck."

Sounds like Cal is leading the push for that. I think he would love to be able to walk into recruits homes and show off something like this.

To me this article does not expose wasteful spending at a public institution as much as it highlights how much money these institutions make. People are looking at it from the wrong angle.
