Covington Catholic 62 Newport Central Catholic 36 (Freshman)

Up on the "hill" tonight the baby Breds were quite honestly, flatout embarrassed. However, the credit goes to the Blue Colonels for their swarming pressure, which caused countless turnovers. :scared:

CovCath started the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. NewCath had a terrible time just getting the ball to mid-court. The CovCath defense was IMPRESSIVE, and I like how they rotate 6 or 7 deep on the bench.

To the Breds, learn from this one and get them when it counts. ;)

NewCath 10-09-07-10---36

That same pressure D brought them back from about 15 or 16 to beat Moeller.

Love that style of play! Are they the favorite to win the freshman tournament?

Compliments to LB for posting the bad with the good.

Not all attached-at-the-hip to a program posters do that.

He could have just as easily given the Baby Breds a pass and kept that one to himself, and no one would have been the wiser.

Better days ahead for the Breds!

I've seen plenty of awesome play from the Frosh, they're a great bunch. Only posted this game since it was against CovCath.

This CovCath freshman team is very good. Next year's freshman team may be as good as this one. The future looks to be on solid ground in Park Hills.

Weren't there something like 68 kids that tried out for this year's team? If that happens again next year, they almost HAVE to have 2 teams, right?

If they could swing it, I would. Many kids develop b/n Freshman and Sophomore year. You want those guys to have court time. However, I don't currently wear a State Championship ring, so I'm guessing that Ruthsatz and his staff have a pretty good idea of what they want to get done with the Freshman level.

If what I am hearing about some kids coming in from outside the area next year then yes they will need to have another squad to keep the Park Hills parents happy. I know the current 8th graders pretty well in NKY and if they get Thelen and Coldiron they will be set at the post.

I think they (and others) would love to have two teams however, my understanding is that they are limited by how many games they can play by KHSAA. If you have a 30 game max, each game played by either team counts against the total. They may have to play a 10 game schedule with a "B" squad and 20 game schedule with an "A" squad. Ohio schools field multiple teams without the restrictions.

I dont see an issue with that. The B team kids would be happy to play 10 games as opposed to ZERO wouldnt you agree? JMO

No way they have 2 frosh teams. That's why you have the IBL

Jim is correct.

CCH briefly considered it for this current team until they realized the restriction that Jim mentions.

Instead they kept about 5 more players than they usually do (17 plus the 2 who play JV). I think when CCH played Moeller earlier this year (not last week's game) each school kept their top 5 players from dressing. This allowed the remaining boys to get more action. My guess is CCH does something like this against some NKY frosh teams that are in the 2nd tier.

It's a good problem to have but not a great solution to satisfy all.

Maybe some kids should think about going somewhere else if they want to play basketball? CCH will probably cut some kids that other schools would love to have..:idunno:

It will be interesting to see if they lose some kids from traditional feeder schools for this reason.

I can tell you I've seen some frosh play some JV and get some varsity action this year at a few schools that may not start frosh at CCH.

HOLD ON: I'm not killing kids here. Simply pointing out the quality of the talent in THIS frosh class (not saying it's an every year thing).
