July 19, 201511 yr A HUGE departure from the Baldacci norm. I'm an old sentimentalist, but I loved it. The first Baldacci book I ever read was "One Summer". Loved it!!! Then my next Baldacci book was from the John Puller series. I could not believe it was the same author because the genres were so different.
July 19, 201511 yr Throwback Patterson? You are pulling out the oldies. :lol2: His earlier books are what got me hooked about 10 years ago. Yep, picked up a bunch of them (first edition hardbacks) at the local Goodwill not long ago.:thumb: Patterson/oldies does not compute for someone of my seniority.
July 20, 201511 yr Author "Private: Las Vegas" is awful. So corny, cheesy, and simple. Couldn't believe how bad it was. I hadn't read a Patterson book until this year. Read the entire Michael Bennett series. Pretty decent. Read one of his Young Adult series. Okay. Read three of his stand alones. Two of them were pretty solid and one (Zoo) was ho-hum. In short, I haven't read anything of his that I'd call great. Nothing terrible, but nothing great either. Also hadn't read a Harlan Coben book until this year. Read about 7 or 8 thus far and almost all of them were better than anything of Patterson's that I've read. He's the Tony Gwynn of authors.
July 20, 201511 yr Author Picked up Bluegrass Conspiracy. Just a fascinating story. I've wanted to read that one for a while.

Harlan Coben just does not publish as frequently as James Patterson, and each one of his are very very good.
July 20, 201511 yr With James Patterson it depends on who is co-author is. He doesn't do much stand alone stuff anymore. I'm thinking the Alex Cross series is it.
July 20, 201511 yr Has anyone read any books written by James Patterson's co-authors? I have read all books written by Andrew Gross, a JP co-author. Really like him. Similar pace to JP, but with a little more depth than some of JP's stuff.

July 20, 201511 yr Great thing about aging is not remembering books you've read. I'm currently reading "Sixth Man" by David Baldacci. As I'm reading it I'm more convinced I've read it yet I can't tell you how it ends so...it's new to me. I'm still not sure if I read this one previously but it is a good read.
July 20, 201511 yr "Private: Las Vegas" is awful. So corny, cheesy, and simple. Couldn't believe how bad it was. On a related note to your post, I just finished Baldacci's "Memory Man" and it was AWESOME. I couldn't put it down from last the last 1/3rd to the finish. Just picked up "Memory Man."
