December 26, 201510 yr I've never read The Grapes of Wrath. It was an optional summer assignment when I was in high school. I thought it looked boring as hell and picked something else. I'm about halfway through now and it's incredible. I'm glad I didn't read it in high school because I wouldn't have understood it. Not because it's incomprehensible or dense, you just need to have some life under your belt to connect. Recently returned from my son's family in Idaho. As an English professor, his house is overflowing with stuff to read. His "area" is modern crime fiction, so I'm in seventh heaven. While we were there I read a couple of classics. Hammett's "The Thin Man" and Capote's "In Cold Blood". Gotta start 'em young.
